Suggestion to Prince for a new website Okay, so I see some of your haters don't care what you do to try to please them, and no matter what, they seem like they want to complain about things just to complain and argue just to argue (like some other people on this site).
So, I have a suggestion for you. Most of your real fans/fams liked the NPG Music Club and The Dawn.
Try this out:
Do another website in the same vein as the NPG Music Club, but do it basic so that there is little or no charge to you to operate it. Charge people 3 or 4 dollars a month for the subscription to your site, put out 2 CD's a year of beats and/or instrumentals and/or completed songs, and give your CD's away for free to members only. Only your real fans will show up.

I like your idea but it won't fly. Pointless seeing as the internet is dead. It is for him, too many felt the got burned by Lotusflower.com
That is the general consensus and he took it on board, that's why he wants to be paid upfront by newspapers and mags. Besides, the real reason?, i joined the NPGMC when it was $25, but you can bet i tracked down everything from it's previous $100 version, and so did thousands of others too. His online ventures make it easy for him to get ripped off.
That's how it is.
Prince makes his money from these deals and the crazy exposure he gets when he opens his gob in interviews, this leads to box-office revenue when he tours. He's not really losing.
Ultimately, I'm one of those crazy people who wish he'd bite the bullet and secure a record deal he's happy with, and somehow be releasing stuff independantly of that deal too. I don't see why that isn't possible for him.

Won't happen. He doesn't care for the business model where music sells based on its own merit of interest by the public and the fanbase. He said so himself. He doesn't like iTunes because they won't pay him in advance.
If he's not going to put it up at the online music distribution system with the most traffic, he sure as hell isn't going to do it on his own website again. This is why he wanted $100, $25, $77 or whatever up front from everyone with his own sites. That was his "advance."
A completely wrong-headed and archaic way of thinking, especially since it's one of the biggest issues that bit him in the ass in that old system he railed against for better than a decade.

He should just release his album on sliding scale ala Radiohead... hell they averaged $6 bucks a record while 12% even paid between $8-12 for it...
That's how he SHOULD be doin' it... I woulda paid for 20ten and $6 sounds fair... oh well... A working class Hero is something to be ~ Lennon | |
