Show Prince a bit more respect We need to show P a lil’ more respect when he comes out with seemingly outlandish claims such as “The internet is over”. How quick everyone is to Mock the man when he says things that go against the status quo and yet Prince is the same guy that predicted a fusion of all the musical genre’s (now everyone’s doing it), Sold out the O2 (now everyone’s doing it), gave away free CD’s (now everyone’s doing it),battled hard to get the sole rights to his music(now everyone’s doing it)…the list goes on and on
Prince has been in the music industry longer than most of the so called ‘artist’s’ today have been alive and he’s still kicking ass in terms of sell-out concerts, music distribution and general shrewd business ventures..
When Prince says the internet is over y’all may not agree but it’s best 2 listen IMHO:-| Wake up children, dance the dance electric... there isn't much time.... who farted? ...was it u?

far from it. Of course there are obvious benefits to the WWW. but isn't just possible that the man who has led music innovation since 1978 has seen something other 'artists' have failed to see?
Put it this way, thanks to piratebay I haven't bought a CD since 2001...U can even get the artwork off that shit
What P may have seen is that concerts and official merchandise are going to be the only way artists will be able to make any $$ in future...Anything that can be downloaded is going to be pirated. (I say as I watch a dvdrip of Clash of the Titans)
Wake up children, dance the dance electric... there isn't much time.... who farted? ...was it u?

Hell yeah me too Since 2003. That and many other things. Makes me feel like a scum bag, but hey, we all know people are gonna do it.
Plus I'm poor as hell, just another excuse for illegal activity.
But in all seriousness I think hes onto something. Because theres been shit recently trying to regulate the internet and certian websites have been taken down in the name of all this stupidity. A man who knows about chemtrails and speaks about this nations crooked history is ok in my books.
Thumbs up. (however I do think his johovahs witness hypocracy is a bit retarded)

Sad but true. Anyway, those of us who pay for our blu-ray films won't org while watching a movie. We'll sit with a coke and popcorn and enjoy OUR movie.
People don't appreciate free things

Actually ppl appreciate free things just fine I make ok money and have no debts to speak of so I could be a good citizen and buy from itunes or HMV but I won't cos....well fuck, I'm greedy.
Prince knows ppl and the internet are changing. He's protecting his shit.
PPl know a minority of honest Draconian ppl will always buy from shops and unwittingly fund my life of downloaded DVD & blu ray quality films and music
As lil' kim said "why spend mine when I can spend ur's" Wake up children, dance the dance electric... there isn't much time.... who farted? ...was it u?

Show Prince a bit more respect and pay for the stuff you enjoy. Or at least have the decency to delete it if you don't like it.
Yeah, I know. I'm talking about decency with a thief. Anyway
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I know many people who appreciate the free things they get from the Internet
They have literally thousands of films and albums they will never listen simply because they don't have the time. Yet they are downloading as I type this

That doesn't mean I don't appreciate you though, sexyAuntyFuka . I'm sure you have some redeeming qualities

much respect to Prince for pointing out that any artist who wants to make money online will fail.
the internet wasnt invented for people to use it purely for their own selfish interests anyway.
maybe now the net can get back to being the caring sharing open FREE world it was before money-grabbers infected it with their tired-ass schemes, spam, rip-off websites and b-grade music.
not to mention their over-inflated sense of entitlement and lack of imagination.
so yeah, i agree with prince, the internet is over for anyone dumb enough to presume they can infect it with their money-lovin stupidity and succeed.
all hail the purple yoda

so really, you basically just have one thought that you like to express over and over again with slightly different words?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
all he means, imho, with the internet is over, is that it doesn't interest him anymore.
Why do you think all these online pics and video's of the concerts on youtube still exist whithout any lettres from lawyers? He just realised that the internet isn't the place where the money is.
for now that is, because in a blink of an eye he might have a change of view.

Just look at what we're seeing now - with more and more information being shared, proxy server providers and privacy networks are also growing along with it. Prince is quoted as saying "nano technology is very cool...scary at the same time though" - imagine having nanobots giving you a 100% uptime to all the information in the world straight from your brain. First - would your brain handle that much information and entertainment () and prince funk) at its fingertips? Secondly, imagine the bots being hacked.. It's the ultimate threat - theoretically, not even your thoughts are your own anymore, makes THE MATRIX seem like a walk in the park.
I reckon Prince has and will soon reveal some ingenius new way to share and appreciate music and everyone else will see it and go.."duh! oh yeah, why didn't I think of that".
Afterall, isn't P supposed 2 be a genius or summink Wake up children, dance the dance electric... there isn't much time.... who farted? ...was it u?

^"I reckon Prince has and will soon reveal some ingenius new way to share and appreciate music and everyone else will see it and go.."duh! oh yeah, why didn't I think of that".
the easiest way to share music is to just share it. no strings attached.
make money offline, and use the net to share, for free.
now wouldnt that be a nice refreshing change?
or is that way too simple. [Edited 7/12/10 6:16am] this too shall pass

This is prince.org.
Respect was 'over' a long time ago.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I think Prince got exactly the reaction he was looking for. He ain't stupid. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Prince needs to show us some respect first. You want a good laugh? Listen to the proprieter of Lotusflow3r.com, NPGMusicScam and others, who shamelessly bilked his fanbase out of thousands of dollars, hypocritcaly lament the evil fat bankers and bitch about paying taxes on his "millon dollar fee" and other ill gotten gains on 'Act Of God'. It would be better if he just calls that track "Pot Calls Kettle Black".

True...any publicity is good publicity right? No wait? What about giving cancer kids Jesus juice and changing ur name 2 a sqiggle and getting ur employee to suck u off in the white house with Altoids mints and... I think it's actually the public thats not that stupid Wake up children, dance the dance electric... there isn't much time.... who farted? ...was it u?

Why can't I dig his music but not like the man himself?
Did you know the JWs have a history of anti-semitism and hate? When he leaves that stinkin church I will be nicer.
I am nice now because his music is kickin, but I still want to drown that little sucker in purple juicy juice.
Jus playin..lol All you others say Hell Yea!!

Actually U make a very very good set of points, however...as the artist his respect for fans is at his own discretion. I have probably listened 2 99% of Prince concert bootlegs and there hasn't been a tour yet when he hasn't called his fans 'fools' or boasted about how much money he's made from us. Truth be known Prince probably detests his fans. The BET awards showed his true colours. A self-centered old man with a disgust for anyone else's talent save his own. Granted cos he is actually the best out there Wake up children, dance the dance electric... there isn't much time.... who farted? ...was it u?

What the hell are you talking about? We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Perhaps you should do some homework before postin'.
1) Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder were just a couple of artists to demand ownership of their masters off the bat, back when Prince was still learning the Batman & Robin theme on Francis' piano or just a dribble on his thigh.
2) All music genre's are not fused together. You aren't hearing TLC record music with Metallica. You ain't hearing Angie Stone do a song with Slipknot. And dollars to donuts, you won't be hearing "Laydown" or "Lavaux" on country radio.
3) He wasn't the first person to sell out the 02 arena. It didn't open with him playing there. The arena opened June 24, 2007. In fact, it was Bon Jovi that opened the arena to the public in 2007, with their Lost Highway Tour, a sold out performance on June 24, 2007 (the opening date of the arena). They were also the first band to play on the roof. They also sold out 12 nights in 2010, exactly 3 years later, on their Circle Tour. Other acts like Barbra Streisand, Keane, & The Rolling Stones played there before, and during, Prince's stint. You think Babs or The Stones, or an English band didn't sell out the arena before Prince? LOL OKAY THEN!
4) Artists were giving away free shit long before Prince chanted "free the music". Hell even Chuck D, Alanis Morrisette, and Q-Tip gave away free songs online before Prince ever even answered fan questions on Love4OneAnother.com. Pearl Jam even recorded their concerts and issued the disks
5) Most artists today are much more fan friendly, and use a better business model by not ripping off their fans, and if a problem arises - they fix it. They don't shut down a website, take the money and run, over and over again. Pearl Jam and Dave Matthews Band are just a couple of bands who allow their fans to make audio recordings of their shows. Pearl Jam took it one step further and released every show as an "official bootleg" from their tour, racking up 72 releases in a year's time. Also the first band to have so many albums in the Billboard Top 200. You can't go near Prince's poop in an port-a-pottie without being accosted by a
Even as crazy and stupid as CJ is at the Mpls/St. Paul news paper, she still got harassed by a "bodyguard" when she stood on public property and attempted to photograph Paisley Park - a building quite in the public eye. Now he doesn't want folks taking pictures of a BUILDING? Yeah, that's respectful.

i think the OP's point is that we shouldnt 'throw out the baby with the bathwater'.
Prince has said and done a lot of things worthy of our respect, but what seems to be happening right now, with myself included, is the respect level has totally dropped because of what he said about the internet.
his inconsistency is catching up with him and it makes it really hard to give the guy props when he does everything to encourage us not to. this too shall pass
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I think it might have more to do with the fact that he can't control it, it's bigger than him and basically he has given up trying. He should have jumped on the opportunities the internet provided like other artists have. Now he is basically washing his hands of it because it wont do as its told, much like a rebellious puppy. Such a shame really.
