Wow... people love to comment on Prince, calling him everything from gay, queer, a horrible musician, irrelevant, looks like a woman, hasn't written a good song since Purple Rain, has only had one good song for his entire career, he's short, he's ugly, blah blah blah blah.

It's amazing that someone can get teased all throughout childhood and school, become a famous musician that's in the rock and roll hall of fame, and many people still say terrible things about him. But you've got to remember, most people in america, and most people in general, say 90-95% of the population, are stupid. They watch reality shows on television, listen to radio controlled by corporations, try and make themselves look perfect so people will accept them so they can feel good about themselves. Also, they generally don't know what they're talking about. I've always been one that's glad to be one of the elite, not mainstream trash.

Prince got paid. He wouldn't have made the same money using digital distribution. end of story. Let the fools laugh at him while he rakes in the money.

"And even as recently as March 2009, Prince was introducing a heavily promoted new subscription website, LotusFlow3r.com; for an annual membership of $77, fans would theoretically not only get the digital version of the three-CD set he was releasing through Target at that time, but loads of new and unreleased material unavailable anywhere else. But as the Wall Street Journal reported this past April, the website turned out to be a bust, at least for the disgruntled followers who never got the stream of rarities and bonuses they were expecting."

At this point I do think too much of a big deal is being made about this. HOWEVER! It's Prince's fault. It's another one of those things where he seems to either be living completely in his own world, or he just didn't think enough before he answered a question. The positive, people are still paying attention to what Prince is saying. The negative, most people don't understand what he's saying or they think it's completely ridiculous. The unfortunate outcome, Prince will never clarify his statements, leaving fans and industry types to spin it into whatever meaning they like.

Part of me has thought that Prince cannot settle on one of two scenarios

1) go 'full out' mainstream and try and garner a broader, bigger fanbase - i.e. compromise musical integrity for the popularity. If he wants this maybe he needs to evaluate his current thinking re distribution

2) keep his musical integrity and settle for more select fanbase by recording tracks which truly reflect his current thinking/ ideologies. His current distribution model would may be make more sense as people could probably relate to why he feels the need to distribute in this way.

Personally I think the mainstream are (wrongly?) assuming that Prince desparately wants to sound hip/ current/ contemporary.

Some of the comments are downright ignorant. That being said, I guess many are not even gonna jump on the bandwagon and if they do, they misunderstood Prince's message but I'm sure Prince didn't do anyone any favors mentioning "weird gadgets" since he once bragged about the gadgets eons ago. lol

That's why I said some time ago last week that Prince speaks in riddles. He forces you to figure it out, so to speak. To some, they DID understand (he wanted pay for his records and iTunes just wouldn't give it to him) but if he had left it at that and also said "I don't use the Internet anymore because it doesn't help me with my music being distributed properly" instead of just flatly saying that it was "completely over", it leaves people to either go "yeah fuck the internet" or, "Prince is dead". So while Prince is benefiting from it financially, he's taking the price for it in public relations. Maybe he'll be happy knowing even some casual Prince listeners dig this album.

no, we're laughing at him for thinking the net was just another medium to make money.

we're laughing at everyone who ever thought this.

so prince isnt the only one being laughed at.

all the greedy money-grabbers who werent satisfied with their millions of offline dollars, are being laughed at.

all the brainwashed sheeple who automatically assumed the net was invented purely to serve their own interests, are being laughed at.

all the artists who couldnt get their shit together enough to be able to make good money offline and figured the net might help them fill their wallets, are being laughed at.

Prince has merely stepped up and provided the perfect example of the sum total of everyone else's stupidity.

the sacrificial lamb.

love ya Prince job well done heart

Wow...so many HATERS on Yahoo. If u don't like someone so damn much why are u wasting any amount of time reading an article about him or bothering 2 write about how much u hate him, if he doesn't matter anymore? The fact that so many UK fans have bought the newspapers and have been writing rave reviews about the new album 20TEN proves that he IS still a musician that matters to some and is hated by a few who took time out of their sad n sorry lives 2 spread some good ole American haterade. Shameful.
Don't u want to come , 3121. It's gonna be so much fun, 3121. That's where the party be, 3121. Y'all can come if u want to, but u can never leave!

You say his current distribution model but the problem is he IS distributing to the mainstream by the choice of paper.

I really don't understand why Prince's comments bout the Internet have gotten so much press and reaction lately. They were stupid and misguided comments, at worst, but they're not any more stupid than comments other celebs have made in interviews.

I could understand this kind of backlash if he denied the holocaust in the interview or said he hated white people or something along those lines. It was one stupid opinion. Let it go, people! Geesh!
