Prince and his $$$.

Why is there always someone in a discussion that has the opinion that "Prince should do this or that for free. He has enough money. He doesn't need any more."

How the hell do you know that Prince "has enough money" or "doesn't need anymore"?

Why, just because he was successful in the past, should he not be compensated for the work he does now?

And this does not just go for Prince, but I hear it when people discuss Eminem, Metallica and even the Beatles...

This has nothing to do with Prince and EVERYTHING to do with the cheapskates who want something for nothing.

People should always be compensated for the work they do, whether it's music, or ringing up a customer at Burger King. Work is work, and folks need to get paid. It's bread and butter. Being rich doesn't exclude anyone from getting paid down the line. We all want to feel secure financially. Rich folks usually have bigger expenses, and rightly so. They have it to spend, and they have worked hard to live more comfortable lifestyle. Doesn't make 'em better, just richer. All that aside, folks should get paid, whether it's Prince, or whoever. Musicians are servants to the people in a way. They serve a purpose, or three. They aren't indebted to us as consumers, yet it's a very synergistic relationship.

No one knows Prince's finances. But if he's playing his cards right, after really almost hitting the skids a few times over the years, then he's at least set from the money made on the Musicology Tour.

However, on the other side, Prince did say music should be free like air. He's sort of lived up to that in some regards. I don't think he meant he'd give everything away for free for all time, but there have been freebies along the way, although slim in pickings. Europe has twice gotten a CD for free, and he's put out a few songs here and there for us.

Anyone who just steals music and never buys anything is a low life asshole with no real sense of anything.

That comment says a lot about the people that make it (manipulative freaks).

People tend to think Prince pulls music out of thin air and in CD form. He has to pay the bills at Paisley Park and compensate the musicians he works with. He has to pay to get his CDs pressed unless he does a ditribution deal and it's included. His getting paid in advance for the CD by a paper is his way of making a profit and not nickel and diming every single sale of a CD. I bet most artists wish they could be guaranteed a certain amount for each of their releases.

"makin' mozzarella while the haters make waste!"

When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!
