The coolest hidden tracks to me have been the ones that are actually BEFORE the first track. I only know of 2 cds to do this (if you know of others, please list!). The X-Files soundtrack (tv show - not movie soundtrack) has a Nick Cave a the Dirty Three song before track 1 (liner notes state something to the effect that "remember 0 is also a number) and the Twisted Willie (Willie Nelson tribute) cd has a cool interview with Willie and Waylon. The only way to access them is to hold down the old reverse button on a cd player after you've started track 1. Any computer I've ever put them into doesn't seem to like the discs at all.

blur's think tank has "Me, White Noise", excellent track 00 nod

I also have

Luke Haines: Das Capital

and

Super Furry Animals: Guerrilla

both with a song in the pregap before track 1.

Maybe more but I can't remember or haven't discovered them yet smile

There is one on Willie Nelson's Moonlight Becomes You, released by Justice Records in 1993.

It's not really hidden, though, as on the back of the CD case there are instructions on how to hear it:

"Justice Soundboard, A special message from Willie Nelson

To access Justice Soundboard: 1. INSERT CD and PRESS PLAY

2. PRESS and HOLD REWIND as player scrolls to the beginning of the Justice Soundboard. (approximately - 1:28 on your counter)

3. RELEASE REWIND to hear a special message from Willie Nelson

NOTE Some CD Players may not access the Justice Soundboard"

Yeah, that stuff was kind of cool in the early 90's.

Now? It is indeed annoying, but, whatever...

Well, we know why there were 77 tracks on 20TEN, don't we? Prince isn't allowed to say "fuck you".

If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Because if he wasn't so religiously devout now, we'd be getting a curse track lmao

All the OCD regarding the number seven aside it also causes a bit of annoyance for those who rip/download the CDs without selecting the proper tracks. He likely enjoys that.

^ no, any colours are cool wink

This is a discussion for those who actually loves to own a CD, razz

- to put a CD album in your stereo and enjoy the whole thing playing, without any interuptions. And to enjoy the whole thing without those silly silense tracks.

But........ I guess - some of - you are listening to mP3's only anyway?

Perhaps an artist put them in there to create a reduction in lyrical or musical connection between two songs?

Track 4 on Rave was a moment of silence for Miles Davis who had passed.

Nobody told Prince somebody else has done this. He thinks this is some groundbreaking unique idea that he came up with. If somebody told him billions of artists like They Might Be Giants have done this, maybe he would quit wasting time with it. I remember my 1992 TMBG cd with 50 or so tracks on it.

I still think Prince is the best out there, but he has followed more trends than he has set in the last 15 or so years. I still dare you to find a recent better written guitar album than Lotus Flow3r. He may have royally screwed his fans with the website, but the rewards within that one cd almost makes me forget about the $77 T Shirt that would not fit.

Who listens to the CD anymore? Doesn't everyone rip it to your PC and load it up on your MP3 player?

I think the silent track thing is just silly.

Hi, no big deal, still.. can anyone tell the reason behind this- very annoying with all that SILENCE on those CD's:

Newpower Soul: 11.– 48. silent tracks

Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic: track 4. silent track

The Rainbow Cildren: 15.-20. silent tracks

20Ten: 10.–76. silent tracks

Aren't you annoyed with this, too... question confused

Prince isn't the first person to put a hidden track on his album. When it was new, in the early 90s, people might have not been expecting anything after the last track.

But now, I kinda think when you see the cd still going- there's a possiblity there could be a hiddent track there.

I'm not annoyed by it, but it's completely pointless. Not only was the hidden bonus track played out by the time Prince even started doing it (1998), but in the age of so many people listening on iPods and whatever, and at the very least, the ability to make a listening copy with a CD-R without all that nonsense inserted, I really don't see the point.

I think maybe it's to surprise some people that may not be expecting it, like I said I nearly jumped out my skin the first time the Rave hidden track came on eek

This is a unique thing they can only do with cds.

My family used to listen to abba on record and one of the records had and endless loop of applause at the end, which was different and something you could only do on a record.

Maxwell's second album Embrya contains a hidden 00 track...

Tracks 10-76 are those tracks which didn't pass the JW screening filter installed by LARRY.

actually there is "prince related" CD that has this same feature. The debut CD "Visualize World Greaze" of Greazy Meal, an MPLS based band in which Tommy Barbarella played hides a "Funky Town" cover in this way.

Which is actually the best track of the entire CD iirc.

I find it annoying. I once said I would buy a blank tape if Prince released it... looks like I got my wish. This is annoying... Purple Yoda... that's not worth listening to 60 difference blank 2 ot 3 second tracks. Lame.

Yes!

Maxwell Embrya cd has that too. A cool intsrumental weird little thing. I believe it actually has a name. Someone around here knows. It's been discussed many times before.

Also Cheap Trick put on a cd in 1997 simply called Cheap Trick. This also has a collage of tracks from the album hidden before the first track.

Prince clearly doesn't have an iPod.

When/if 20ten is released in Canada, first thing I'll do is rip it and delete those suckers. Pure silliness.

I can get behind a one-track Lovesexy... I understand his intent, and I can respect it. But needlessly adding tracks so that people can ooh and ahh when they pop in the cd and see that the running time is exactly 77:77 (or whatever) is pointless, in this day and age. Even adding a bunch of silly wind to N.E.W.S. (an album I like) so that each track would be 14:00 minutes was pushing it, in my opinion.
