Hot Summer - new single in US ?

I've played "Hot Summer" for a number of people and they all love it. One friend is going to use the song for a fashion show next week. I know the whole 20ten thing is going on over seas , but I think Prince should promote "Hot Summer" here in the US and it could be the suprise hit he is looking for. The hook of the song is excellent and is very catchy for non Prince fans who haven't heard any new material in awhile. My thought is scrap 20ten for release in the US and release a new cd via Warner in September with "Hot Summer" as the lead single.

one of his worst songs in years.. by a country mile.

I wish he'd just attempt to support his albums with singles again. :/

I still play pokemon. I play warcraft. And I'm awesome.

Hot summer is too simple for a great prince single. He should release "Compassion" as a world wide single and promote the hell out of it including a top notch music video and promo apperances on television and radio. That could be a really big international hit for him.

"Hot Summer" isn't that bad of a song. It's just a simple pop song, nothing deep or intricate. It's not "Computer Blue" for 2010, by any means. How can folks deal with "Shake!" or "Cream", and not like "Hot Summer"? Same keyboard riff (which many songs by many artists have used over the years - it's a classic keyboard line).

"Hot Summer" isn't on 20Ten, so it won't be a promoted or lead single. I think it would fit on the album rather well, although I'm not sure where just yet. I'm reserving my opinion and judgment of the album until I listen some more (and we're doing a 20Ten review show on my radio show on July 22, the alleged release date/week for the US). I still listen to "Hot Summer". boogie

Singles are really different nowadays. However, he should have put "Hot Summer" on iTunes, at least to let folks grab it. Oh, that's right. The internet and iTunes is over. Well, so is the majority of public interest in that song.

PS Summer isn't almost over. The first day of summer was June 21 - not even a month ago. [img:$uid]http://bzupages.com/images/smilies2/th_emoticon-0157-sun.gif[/img:$uid]

I wish he would rework it add more of a New Wave Rock affect. Change the vocals, sing it in either a falsetto or sing it similarly to All the Critics.

I have it at track 0 on my 20Ten set

I think Hot Summer is a wee belter of a song, perfect summer pop.

It would make a nice b-side.

Now, I do think that could work. He's done it with Guitar. Let's hope he re-record that cut and do it in the same vein as the material on "20Ten".

Absolutely agree. I was wondering where your review was of 20ten so will be interested to hear your show.

I actually think Hot Summer should be released asap. What with P's festival run and album giveaway a single release of some kind would be a good move. But then this is P we're talking about.

On a different note I've been googling 20ten reviews and have to say in the main they are very positive

I am intrigued as to what the WB deal is gonna be. I'm still leaning towards the thinking that 20ten is a 2cd release and that Hot Summer is on it. I mean, surely there is no point in releasing 20ten 'as is' after the giveaway without an incentive to include something additional ...?

HELL NO!

"Hot Summer" had more vocals from one of the women singing in it than it did Prince himself so I don't know how that would go...lol I honestly wouldn't even call it a "Prince" track technically.

I love it. Simple, infectious, no pretense, throwing a ball on the beach. Some things should not be overthought. Summer is one of them. Yes it sounds like a B-52 song but in a good way.

Hot Summer isn't a terrible but you just know that Prince can do better. With that said, it is a pop song through and through and I can't knock it for that reason. I just would have liked to have heard Prince more in the song and for it to be funky, which it wasn't.

The first thing I thought hearing it was "Love Shack".

I would hope not, whatever label that plans to handle 20Ten for him better not even think of this as some sort of push off song and toss it out there, because it is nothing more than a bside, if they still had a and b sides.
