It is Rio De Janeiro.
"Euro and soon Amero" (if those are the words, which it's what they sound like to me) could just be locations (Europe and America) that he is just rhyming with "Janeiro". As in the "the dirty new sound" is bout to take over the world.

"Amero" is the new currency of the north American union...

I thought this was a reference to his faith - being a JW, he doesnt believe in blood transfusion etc...so by having surgery, she can no longer see what he sees as she is now in some way tainted - tin hat on = preparing to be shot down. M

Euro is the currency in Europe
Amero is the 'The 'probable name' of a World currency after all global markets finally collapse and the New world order begins!

thay's not how I see it. (hear it) I feel he's saying this line 2 a person whom makes really bad music.. is really off key... but still is on the top of the list. and if HIS girlfriend didnt have the eye-sergey, she would see what Prince is seeing.... It's however possible 2 see though your ears... right? she would then see how off key/ horrid it is...
2 me this makes sence...
Musicology 4 the horrid Electromagnetic popheads that's on the Radio that makes yo teeth gnash (ref 2 Compassion)... thats what this song is about I think.
But I thing this song her so many complex messages. and it's rapped up in humore in a way that ONLY Prince can.
I can also see/hear a strong link between this track and "Dear mister man" Laydown... hmmm... Thats the startegy 4 how U drop EXPLOSIVES right? the track is hidden... it's a lot of Piloting/ flying talk from Prince...
... so he HIDES EXPLOSIVES in flight 77.. and it's going 2 Pentagon...
do U get my drift??
I'm so tired of fans thinking EVERYTHING is about JW... I wonder why that is...(thinking loud) He has references to so many devers knowledges

I know what the currency in Europe is I am also familiar with the term Amero in relation to the "North American Union". I'm just sayin it could also be just a silly rhyme. If Euro and Amero is referring to currencies it doesn't change that the first part of the line is clearly Rio DeJanairo (no matter how many times folk try to make it sound like something else or decode it) in which case he just threw it in because he needed something...anything to make the rhyme fit.
I know it's blasphemous to suggest in this forum but he does do that. Not every word out of Purple Yoda's mouth/pen is a revelation and full of wisdom.

How about that? That used to baffle me when I first heard it. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I think it's 1 thing I would like to add here, wish I think is importent 2 add, when you say "the line is clearly Rio De Janairo". Many fans has languages that might pronounce the exsact same word differently then the way wich is so obvious for other fans from a different nation or native language. U useing the word "decode" in a conversation like this, tells me U never thought of this.
Prince doesnt throw in fillerwords. He througs in somethin' yes, but that's a riff, a scream... a uh,... a bass ...a SAX...etcetc ... That's why Prince is a master withinn his Art.

hey! :grr: "not a fan" yeah...ok
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Of course I'm well aware that Prince has fans who speak many languages. Hell, English is MY second language. But Prince writes in English primarily (except for a word or phrase thrown in here or there on occasion. So yes, I would say that if it sounds (in a clear manner) like Rio DeJaneiro, that would probably be what he is saying.
And yes he does throw in or make up or alter words sometimes. I used an example already. Or are "jobba" and "robba" some meaningful words in a language I'm not familiar with? [Edited 7/13/10 11:15am]

This track, I cannot stop playing. I freaking love it. It's early 90s Prince, circa 2010. Good times...
BTW: I agree with Johnart on this one...the lyric is surely just an abbreviation of America made to rhyme with Janeiro.
=0P
PS. If there is an extended version of this song, I MUST HAVE IT! [Edited 7/13/10 11:25am] Brace yourself

do you know what we are missing? the artwork WITH booklet and lyrics given out. If 20TEN had a booklet w lyrics, we couldnt even have this conversation becouse then I wouldnt have posted anything here. It's great with the lyrics infront of you when you hear the trax the 1st time, then you can easily pick out the errors you hear. due to language/Prince swollowing his words 2 make the sentence short, or becouse you were so focused on listeneing to the riff, that u didnt catch the lyrics.
Jobba or Robba means worked and robbed in Norwegain so pls take another exsaple... that makes me krack up laughing... did then, still does. still I curious about if those word means something else inanother language... you see, I'm Norwegian. I think fillers like that is more a joke from his side, it's not in need of a filler. Needing one due 2 lack of skills, or useing one becouse it's funny .. thats to different things. It's like he's testing us 2 see if we start laughing... becouse if we do, we're paying attention.
We agree, I just neede to make sure we did. Cya

ohhh I 4got 2 ad one thing... about the depth. Hilleriously funny ppl are normaly very deep. it goes hand in glove. The simpler humore, the deeper mind. like in C'mon BOO, or come on BOO in english..

Why are SOME folks trying to make sense of "Amero"? You actually think there's some deep meaning in what's otherwise a song with indecipherable lyrics?
You can't just dig it for the groove?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I agree that a booklet with lyrics would be a wonderful thing, but I have to ask this...
Are you seriously implying that when Prince wrote/sang in Lemon Crush If I'm workin at my jobba I'm the victim You're the robba
he was bustin into Norweigian??? x 1,000,000
Please tell me you are just being funny.

Because, whether the meaning is "deep" (whatever that means) or not, there is still meaning to be understood. The lyrics to a song are important - whether they are good or not is another matter, but understanding the message of what is being sung is still essential.
If you think the lyrics are "indecipherable", then perhaps you need a better stereo?
I'm with the camp that think this is referring to regions - it is what makes most sense in the context of that verse. As I was already aware of the prospective Amero as a currency, I first assumed it might be referring to this (especially given the heightened social commentary that has been evident on the last few albums). But, he's referring to the release of the album. "And soon Amero" fits as, of course, it is due to be distributed there soon.
So, he has bastardized the word "America" in to "Amero". And, actually, there is nothing wrong with that technique! Some seem to suggest that this is lazy, whereas its actually poetic licence. A more creative person will come up with something unusual when they need something to fit with the rhyme, meter or any other stylistic aspect - its been a feature of poetic literature since before Shakespeare (even Chaucer changed "standard" Olde English words to suit the poetry). So, some may ridicule it but, if they were writers themselves, they might be more objective about the technique.
When I first heard the lyric, I immediately heard it as "Rio De Janeiro, Euro and soon Amero" - this was in the car. But, as I said before, this doesn't work in context. I've since listened to it on my studio reference monitors, which are crystal clear and the last part is certainly correct. However, he doesn't say "Rio De Janeiro" completely straight. The word "Janeiro" is either just broken up for rhythmic purposes (as Ja-uh-neiro), but it almost sounds like he's singing "Japaneiro" or "Jumpineiro" (so, possibly squeezing Japan in, in the first example (which seems unlikely) and "Jumpineiro" could be a reinforcement of "that purple bounce bounce". My feeling is, he is singing "Janeiro" and adding an extra syllable/grunt and breaking up the word for rhythmic effect. ...we have only scratched the surface of what the mind can do...

And thing is I'm not even questioning his great artistry or song/lyric writing abilities. None of us would be here if we didn't think he was a master of all these things. But to refuse to accept/admit that the man can also write averagely (or god-forbid, even below ) is just plain silly. The man can write a shitty song or meaningless lyric just like Meryl Streep can make a shitty movie. Being a master of your craft does not exempt you from creating middle of the road or crappy material.

ofcouse I AM JUST BEEING FUNNY JUST HILLERIOUSLY FUNNY, .. YES Jeg har Jobba = I have worked en jobb = a work, or a piece of work... har'ru Jobb a? = do you have any work?
Er'u robba? = have U been lifted. En Robber = one thife.
this means
If I'm workin at my jobba I'm the victim You're the robba
If I'm working at my ART I'm the victim You'r the thife...
This is something Prince could have said 2 WB about owning his own art... WB is the thife
Or this is a very language confuzed Norwegian/Americaner.
I can also tell you the reason for this,
about 200 years ago it was a huge emigration from Norway to Northen America.
Pls show this to a Norwegian/American you know WHOM IS NOT AT PRINCE FAN...
even this person will Crack up laughing
It's EXTREMELY HILLERIOUS if no1 figured this out B4...
it's not just the words themselfs, It's also the Funky Northen American acsent is quit similar to the Norwegian...
I don't really have much contact with other Prince fans in Norway. But if No1 Eva figured that out yet.... It's hillerious x 101010100001000011110001010000101010

my initial thought was that it was just made up slang for America to make a rhyme. "...and soon Amero" meaning: this shit gonna be hittin The States soon.
