"Lavaux" is so awesome. I just keep playing this one over and over again. To me, it perfectly recaptures the wonderful pop experimentation of the late-Revolution era. When I hear it most is when Prince sings that vamp at 2:35 that goes, "Lavaux-ohohohohoh." It sounds so much like the stuff he was recording with Wendy and Lisa before it all imploded. Brilliant work here, Prince! clapping

Lavaux is a great song!! I'm so glad Prince decided 2 release it! I love the use of funky rhythm guitars in P music! I so love "Illusion, Coma, Pimp & Circumstance" from Musicology and hoped Prince would release more jams like it. More, more, more!!!! Lavaux is much 2 short, we need an extended long version SOON! eyepop excited bananadance

This is what "Lavaux" looks like (it's a real vineyard in Switzerland):

I've never seen Lavaux before but my idea of what it looked like is similar to this pic but with mountains but still as green as this. It looks like a very beautiful place.

I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Don't have time to read all the comments so forgive me if someone has mentioned this already. Many are saying they hear "Automatic" by the Pointer Sisters, and while I'll admit i hear that similarity(along with confessing I've always believed he ghostwrote it for them, even before i knew he did ghostwiting), as well as resembling "If a Girl Answers..." - but the absolute ringer is the original version of "Possessed" - which i think may in fact predate the other songs mentioned - i mean Wow they're similar! But i'm fine with it. I love the track!

Here, is my opinion on "Lavaux"--second strongest song musically and with instruments...he does hit the old sound on this one and "Act of God." He is at is most convincing and persuasive on these two songs IMO. The worst is "Everybody Loves Me"--passive/aggressive children's song in the vein of "the cradle will fall." C'mon, Prince, you can do better! If you are going to do a children's ironic tune do it in a minor key--not in a major "happy, happy, happy" key like the worst old fashioned children's bedtime songs... lol

Apparently, it's "Like the chocolate of Vevey", according to this article (in French):

http://www.24heures.ch/mo...2010-07-15

They explain how Prince discovered the Lavaux area while driving from Geneva to Montreux in 2007. He apparently asked a lot of questions, took notes, etc. And they drove by Nestlé in Vevey. Hence the "chocolate of Vevey".

I just CAN'T stop smiling when listening to this song. Unbelievable that he wrote a song on a tiny swiss area such as Lavaux... what a great gift.

Proud to be Swiss wink

Yeah your right I do here the vocal version of Possessed which was a Possessed-Irrestable Bitch-Feel U Up combo.

If a Girl Answers, Cool were all created prior to or around the same time as Possessed.

Cool of course was 1980/1981

Excellent point - In couldnt agree more. When he is doing yet another Sly Stone cover (and now the dreadful marmonica geek is there), I often wonder what it would be like to hear a few of those classic album tracks - Lion if Judah should have definitely gotten a live treatment. THe Dance, If I was the man n ur life...the list goes on. No diss to Everyday People but come on - he has been playing that since the 90s

You know me so well. I trust your judgement more than anyone else on this board.

It's a great jam. It's Prince going back to his great sound with no shit hop sounding drum machines beneath it, no shit hop slang above it, and no shit hop lyrical styles and deliveries. No hints of shit hop whatsoever to depress and bring you back to face the reality that we're living in a shit hop polluted world today. It's pure escapism to a better time and sound. This jam is as if the 1990s and 2000s never existed and were erased from your memory. If the entire album had been like this track, it would have been his baddest, kickass album in decades.

My only gripe is, it's too short. It should have been like an 8 minute jam with an extended funky breakdown. Remember how funky "Lady Cab Driver" was when it broke down?

Longer ... Yes! I remember the days of buying every Prince 12" as soon as it came out and just being blown away because it was a whole nother world to explore ... for example the Kiss 12" after the song was supposed to end and it just got crazy sick funky, the Mountains 12" with it going in a totally different direction, or how about the Hello B-side of the 12" that was a whole new song to discover that was just sick!

Lavaux is the first song in a long time that has gotten me as excited about it as it has. We NEED a 12" extended mix from Prince on this one!!!

The last time Prince came out with an extended mix that was really exciting to me (after many years) was Brand New Orleans - that to me was a return to form for him and I really enjoyed that one. But Lavaux is an even better song so image the 12" of that one!!! Bananas!!!!
