I really like how Act of God goes right in2 Lavaux..
These two songs are kind of personal I believe
He goes on a tyraid about us having to pay taxes in the "land of the free" in Act Of God..and then it goes into a place that "is free" which is Lavaux...I like how he personally left his mark on his stance about the taxes he had to pay this last year after coming off tour on Act Of God..let me get in that thread
Straight Jacket Funk Affair
Album plays and love for vinyl records.

So far this is the song from 20Ten that works on all levels for me. Been in my head all day.
Lay Down is catchy, but super cheesy. This song just flows nicely. It make my head nod. Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it. |

From the opening beat and syth/guitar hook this song grabbed me in a way that Act of God couldn't. And as pointed out by Groovement it does have a hint of "Shake Your Body" in it (a track Prince has been playing a lot lately) but that just makes it even more enticing. This will get a high rotation on a Saturday night me thinks. "I'm not human I'm a dove, I'm ur conscience. I am love"

I was thinking the same thing. At first I was thinking it was something Chaka did, but it's Debarge's Rhythm of the Night that I hear in the synths. TRUE BLUE

It occurs to me that there's a lot of talk about traveling, particularly flight, on this album.
This track, Future Soul Song, Sticky Like Glue, Walk In Sand... any others?

I haven't heard any of the songs on this album since I haven't recieved it from the mail (from the German Amazon ) but looking at the lyrics and all of the comments, I am going to go ahead and name this my favorite on this album. I hope I do not change my mind when I get it though, that would really suck. (I also had a fave from Lotusflower and MNPLSound before they were released. For Lotusflower it was Crimson & Clover, for MNPLSound it was Chocolate Box). Purple Music is my drug and I'm jonesin!!!!!

Hmm I can kinda hear "Shake Your Body" references, I also hear the DeBarge in it too.
@Sahar2, it has to be "if it is eye know".

OK Timmy I listen 2 U.
I'm affraid I will always sing amore there I've done that form I heard the song the 1st time, and it's hard 2 shake that off.
The roads ARE narrow, and the mountains ARE covered with snow in Lavaux, it's not IF, they ARE... so thay's why the line "IF IT IS i know" don't make any sense 2 me...
Thanks [Edited 7/11/10 13:42pm]

then again mayB the roads Prince are refearing to, is the roads/paths in life. If they're Cold and narrow... then it makes sense...

The references to DeBarge and Michael Jackson actually work. Those were some funky songs, just like Lavaux. I love the groove and the beats on this song and I envision my idea of what Lavaux is through this. A winner in my eyes! I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

This song is definitely one of the BADDEST songs (and albums) Prince has done in a long time. I love it! I hear the two (maybe three) influences people are talking about, and once you figure out what it is that sounds so familiar, it really doesn't take away from how great the song is - Prince really made this familiar synth riff his own on this song. To disagree would be like saying that Electric Chair is too similar to Superstition to really be enjoyed (not true). The other thing I hear is 1999 in the guitar playing. I LOVE the guitar playing on this song and the album overall. If you listen to 1999 or that song live on the 1999 tour, the Hohner rhythm playing is fantastic. This kind of playing is back with a vengeance on this song & album, along with the signature Linn sound (love it) with some newer digital synths instead of Oberheims to keep it modern. Overall - TIGHT. The lyrics are interesting too. This is my favorite new Prince song & album in a long time! [Edited 7/11/10 16:05pm] [Edited 7/11/10 16:06pm]
