06 - Lavaux Disaux...
EDIT: Early tracklist reports were off. Corrected the order. Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it. |

The return of the synth fried shit and the chicken scratch geetar!!!

This song is tight but I wish Prince would use classic analog synthesizers instead of the digital plugins he has been using recently.

The Pointer Sisters! We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

re: Act Of God & Lavaux...
in the "official" tracklist that's been posted, aren't these titles reversed. the version of the leak I got had the 2 tracks mis-named (Act of God was listed as Lavaux and vice versa), the track numbers reflected a mis-naming in that is sounds like Lavaux segues (slightly) out of Act Of God. I haven't listened to it in reverse, but is sounds natural the way I'm listening.
anyone? [Edited 7/8/10 21:04pm]

Yep! Definitely "Automatic"!!

I think this song left a lot to be desired. Great '80s-inspired riffs (guitar, keyboard) and drum beats (Linn of course) and the way he sang was kinda Morris-esque but the lyrics didn't make it enjoyable.
The Pointer Sisters' "Automatic" meets The Time is what I call it. [Edited 7/8/10 21:37pm] [Edited 7/8/10 21:37pm]

Where has this guy been the last 15 years? I'm loving the lyrics. They don't sound forced, they're relatable, yet they have that Princely quirk to keep them interesting - all framed by an easy pop-funk jam that you can't get out of your head. Are these old songs? Has he been holding back? Is he just newly inspired? I'm so confused.

Crap. | |

I LOVE this song. It gets better with each listen. I can envision the lyrics with this song. Without any doubt, a great track. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Sounds like Life Can Be So Nice...
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Really?
I don't hear that at all.
"Life Can Be So Nice" is neat because it's really atonal and messy, and deep down, fonky as hell.
Actually, I can kinda hear it in the melody...
but then again, this song sounds like anything and everything he's ever done.
Total throwaway. Doesn't even sound like he's trying here, in the worst way.

If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

It truly doesn't. This was truly when the album took a downturn because while I can forgive Prince for the rap in "Sticky Like Glue", this one just drags and drags. I couldn't even dance. Blame it on the hippie-ized lyrics.

The song structure on this one is super confusing. I loved the snippet but the song just goes nowhere.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I was wondering about that, as well.
Anyway, something about this track is pleasant enough but it seems rather forgettable once it's over.

OMG!!! surviving on the thought of loving you, it's just like the water
I ain't felt this way in years...

U seriously cant groove on this?
Damn, Those synths just grab ahold of me as soon as the song starts.

No not really the lyrics just... the lyrics I listen to first. [Edited 7/8/10 23:23pm]

I'll admit this though if he had kept that groove a little longer after singing, I'd probably would've gotten down to it. But like every other song besides FSS he ended it abruptly.

We need an extended remix
The only I could do without is the bridge that ventures away from the fun and funk.
You're so glam, every time I see you I wanna slam!
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
That's what mainly killed it for me when it went to that bridge. Like I said there was a minute I could've been like "OW!" but that wasn't the case.

Its okay, Once the synths dropped on the my first listen I knew it was on.
Anything that takes it back to the classic mplsound in any way will catch my attention, I wish more of his songs were synthed out jams like this.
It really makes me disappointed with Jesse Johnson for abandoning the old school sound, it can still sound fresh as Prince has shown us.

I think this is the best one on the album.
