He's mentioned The Wizard of Oz a couple of times.

He's also mentioned Forrest Gump (I think on TRC somewhere)

Technically "Sometimes It Snows In April", and "Christopher Tracy's Parade" mentioned a character

He's talked about The Matrix before in interviews, as well as The Firm.

On Ellen, when he sang, "Kiss", mentioned "Sex and the City", instead of "Dynasty".

He's also mentioned Godfather 3, and Barbarella.

Yup.

Not only has he mentioned barbarella, he's sampled soundbytes from the movie throughout Diamonds & Pearls (Live 4 Love has Baraberrella sound bytes all up in it).

I think Prince likes post apocalyptic sci-fi lol

Star Wars?

Not the first time:

Prince's deep voice on The Rainbow Children is sometimes described as sounding like Darth Vader and / or Bob George.

Prince is well versed in pop culture, always has been. As a Star Wars and Prince fan, of course I love it.

I think Prince would make a great Jedi Master, I can see him sitting alongside Master Windu on the Jedi Council (insert photoshop pic of Prince in Jedi Council Chambers here).

Personally I would like to hear him expand more on his references to the "Tourists at Disney Land" from Lady Cab Driver.

I watched the original yesterday...Ya know, I never realized that "Quaker Oats," was a sponser for this "Warner Brother's," Classic.

Gene Wilder is really funny in this movie. He's always quietly and mysteriously quoting poetry.

"Willy Wonka," is being called "Bonkers," and he replies something along the lines of...

"U never know what kind of nonsense comes from the wisest men." I could barely hear the line, but meaning was clear. cool

Lord...imagine if Lucas had asked Prince to do a cameo for the Star Wars prequels as a Jedi Master?

I think that Geekfans like me would spontaneously combust.

I'm not dissing the OP on this; it's a more general idea.

I find it funny that fans sometimes get excited when Prince makes mention of something in popular culture. Steve Parke told me just a couple of weeks ago, in a phone interview, "Prince doesn't live in a vacuum", and although he was talking about music in some regards, he's right. We think of MJ as a recluse, but the man still knew his movies.

We think Prince is isolated and alone at Paisley Park, and maybe on some levels he has isolated himself over the years. However, he's also not oblivioius to the world at large, popular culture, or the latest whatever. Why wouldn't Prince know about The Matrix, or Star Wars, or The Firm, or Forrest Gump, or Waterworld, or any of the other movies he's mentioned in songs? The guy is obviously a big movie buff. He's pulled from Godfather III to Barbarella to whatever else for inspiration in songs, looks, ideology, etc.

Folks will say he's "well versed" in pop culture, yet aren't we all? It almost sounds like he's an exception to the rule. He's just a dude, like the rest of us. The guy poops. No really, he does. He poops. And $10 says he puts on a shower cap when he gets in the stall w/ his loofah and Burt's Bees soap. He's quite normal in a lot of ways, probably more than he's unique in the "Prince" we know onstage and in pictures. He's in the world, he's part of the world like we all are part of it. Being "well versed" in pop culture isn't a big stretch. Anyone just has to open their eyes, and pay attention to stuff, read a book, or watch the trends to know what's going on and be well versed.

How to say he's well versed in politics, religion or something a bit more complicated and in-depth would be a more fair statement (although I dismiss him as being well versed in either considering his stance on both - he's very close-, and narrow-, minded on those two topics).

Actually, that would be funny. He could use part of it as a tag ending to a song, they way he used "Rock Lobster" as a tag ending to stuff like "Anotherloverholenyohead", or how he used the ending of "Rock N Roll Is Alive" as a tag on other songs. Might be a fun listen.

Yes, he is a movie buff. back in 97' he came to my small hometown during the Emancipation tour and after the gig, he and Mayte went to the movies and saw "Batman 3" (the horrible one with Arnold as Dr Freeze). So yeah, P is jus as normal as us, he watches movies, etc....
