Last straw was reading this long write up about his latest internet comments as usual with these haters its starts with some fake love, " no everyone know Prince is one of my musical heroes....." then just ends up as the usual hate article about he is out of touch, cant make good music anymore, rewriting history etc. really is a shame.

rolleyes

Given that Prince declared war on some members of his own fanbase when he and his lawyers damn nearly have all Prince-fansites (including THIS one) shut down a while back, excuse flipping me for having reasonable doubts about Prince being broken hearted about people.

i'm a friendly fan (except, i like to mock the way he plays the same two songs agains and again. except for that, though, i am amazingly loyal).

however, i am truly stymied about the latest, the announcement that the 'internet is over'.

not to mention, the website is gone.

how do you think we will be able to purchase the neqw album here in america?

after you answer this question for me, then spend a moment thinking: has prince let his fans down?

thank you. that is all

Or have we forgotten.... screwing fans over multiple times with scam websites. Suing fan sites. Abandoning projects shortly after their release. Performing the same lazy setlists over and over again.

Prince should be grateful that as many fans have stuck with him through all the BS because of the love of his music.

Look at it THIS way:

Unlike Michael & Madonna, Prince was NEVER YouTube-friendly for the sake of his fanbase.

he threatened to sue, because his fans totally trashed Planet Earth, no respect given, not a single ounce.

he couldnt understand how his fans could speak that way about a musical authority such as himself.

i dunno, maybe that's his problem, thinks he so high and mighty, which as a musician he may be.

maybe if he's stayed off the drugs and the megalomania things might've been different.

I would say it's more on Prince than it is us but if any fault can be placed on fans, it's those that blindly take his messages on face value as if they're truth or something. Like I said, the man says everything in riddles. How can you say one thing and do another? Like one minute you're praising the internet, the next you're claiming it's over because of the numbers and "the weird gadgets"? Then you have fans who still blindly think that he's gonna come a record that's remotely like "Sign O' the Times". So I can see how fans are let down but I really don't think Prince cares. YouTube may be cruel in some degree but they can open you to a new audience and Prince doesn't understand that. That old model that he's all of a sudden champion again (when he initially rebelled against it) is never coming back like he thinks. But honestly I don't even think he believes what comes out of his mouth. If anything the only doors he's opened is a can of worms these days. So Prince shouldn't be surprised that his fan base is pretty much divided these days than they probably were in the '80s.

1. People are quick to take Prince's statements at face value; however as the Blog mentioned in another thread alludes....folks should think about the full implication of what Prince is saying, it does make sense (if you stop drinking the koolaid and think). Some "critics" are lazy at best and just want a reason to continue their rant against Prince.

2. On that note, its obvious that there are some (on this board) and others I'm sure who've gotten "bit" or perceived they've been bitten by Prince....they're bitter and they make it their goal in life to try to return the favor.

3. Its hard for some to understand that it is impossible to "own" someone who is intelligent, beautifull and free. Yet some try and inevitably end up frustrated. In the end they simply build ill-will with the person the're trying to possess. Some "regulars" on this board act as if they want to "control" Prince, they know what's best for him....they say their fans or fams and they dig his music, but really, they are envious of him.

Some days I wish I'd have been "bitter" and "envious" of Prince back in the 90's, when there weren't any sweet things around to enlighten me on my bitter enviousness. lol When I think of the money I could have saved, NOT buying his music, DVD's, website subscriptions, concert tickets, posters, t-shirts, key chains...etc.

Hi, first may I say that my comment was not directed at any one person.

In your response however I think you're saying that you've "invested" your hard-earned cash, possibly even sacrificed (finacially and/or personally) at times as a fan over the last twenty years; I get that. But in those twenty years didn't you get what you "paid" for in the form of music that you chose to buy. Didn't you attend some funky concerts and now have memories and good times to think and talk about?

I don't understand how then Prince is responsible to any one of us outside of what he's doing--making music and living his life? What other expectation could one have from him?

Honestly, I mean no disrespect and I'm not trying to be mean in any way.

In all honesty...not always! I've been to concerts where he either showed up late or threw a hissy fit over a stage prop not working the way he wanted and just left the stage midway through the show. I've gotten CD's of his protege' of the month, that I could not have cared less about.

A whole lot of the time, I just bought things for no other reason but to be a supportive fan of Prince because I'd watched more than a few of my favorite artists fade into the sunset and end up broke because they were no longer popular on the radio and charts and their fans abandoned them. shrug

I take full responsibility for my decisions to do that. nod

However, hindsight is 20/20 and if I knew back in the '90's, that I was just gonna end up being an old, bitter, envious, hater on the internet. wink I'm sure I could have found something much better to do with my money! shrug

Some of the people who are more demonstrative in their displeasure of Prince's behavior are just as egocentric and have just as much a need to make themselves the center of attention as he does.

It's almost like they're funhouse mirror images of each other.

The main ones here who give Prince the most shit for his ego and mistreatment of fans are the biggest, smuggest, know-it-all, "I'm better than you, I'm smarter than you".

Just the shear nerve of these people who post here and CONSTANTLY, CONSTANTLY state their opinion as if it's fact!!!

They're the most annoying, elitist, snobbish, egregious motherfuckers on the face of the planet!!!

They're the people who think if you actually have the nerve to like Prince's more recent output. Or if you don't think Prince's recent issues with the internet are grounds for immediate execution, there's something wrong with you!!!

They're the ones who constantly bitch about how Prince is being "controlled" or "brainwashed" by his religion. But, the reason why they're so pissed off is because THEY want to be the one to control him.

We know who they are.

They're the assholes who try to compare being a Prince fan to being an abused spouse.

Which, when you think about it is extremely offensive.

They're just loud, and type any bullshit they can think of because they like the sound of their fingers striking the keyboard.

I have been negative in the past... but listening to his records now... no one else for me comes close to providing enjoyable music as consistently as him.

I think he's grown as an artist, and I'll continue listening.

Critics and other fans seldom like the same stuff I do. To my ears, most of what I hear from Prince is good.
