What has to be remembered is these are large concerts. The 'O2' has about 20,000 seats or more. These festival audiences I understand, are from 50,000 - 70,000 in number. How can he seriously perform liberal selections of songs unheard by them?

He could. Stevie did Glastonbury recently, He threw in 'Free' from the Characters album. Now i love that song, but it's pretty obscure by Stevie standards. I'd bet out of the audience attending that gig, not too many own it. To most it'd have seemed new.

My preference for a gig would be 50/50. new songs, then old.

It's not interesting to hear 'Dearly beloved' anymore. It just isn't.

I remember ducking out to take a piss on my visits to the O2 on more than one occasion, that wouldn't have crossed my mind in the past.

True, to us here. In the man's defence, he just now started playing @ Werchter, Belgium in the pouring rainstorm and the crowd is going wild regardless. And yes, he opened with "Let's go Crazy" and "Delirious", amongst others... neutral

By latest concert in Denmark for the 20Ten tour. Always same songs, hits...In fact set list is always quite the same since O²: what's the difference with the Grand Palais shows??? 1999, Guitar, Mountains??? So what?

My happiness was on top as I attended the Cigale aftershow in the front row....

I'm going to Arras next Friday without any excitement knowing already what I'm going to hear. I could go to Nice but I won't!

I'm a Prince fan since 84', but I'm really tired of some stuff as:

Graffiti Bridge: quite ashamed to own/watch the DVD.

SOTT & Nude Tours: light set list (1h30) with quite no changes.

Official sites always down after a while.

Larry Graham: probably a great bass player, but I hate his voice!!! Please don't sing!!!

Bria Valente: where is this doll anyway??? Over with Prince?

Where are the singles with extended versions?

1999 remastered: stupid thing! For me 1999 remastered would be an official release with extra songs (as Delirious demo or Someting In The Water Does Not Compute demo)

I'm simply bored!

Where is Prince who did so great gigs (with the Revolution), PR & Parade eras? Entering at the First Avenue was such a great experience in my life, knowing what happened there. I'm glad to keep memories through pictures, records, songs that I like so much (17 days, God instrumental, She's Always In My Hair

Get over it...That's what people want 2 hear over there in Europe!!!! It's not about diehard fans taste...

The Ignorant asserts,The learned doubts,The wise thinks.

I appreciate your disappointment. Prince seems to be evolving musically very slowly these days neutral Perhaps before this tour is over the setlist will improve some. I loved the ONA tour because it sounded so fresh and different: not just pimping the hits again. But since Musicology, he has been interested in revisiting the same songs again and again. I personally would love to hear or see something so different, so unexpected, so new...a set of all-new music perhaps? an album in its entirety? some vault items live?

maybe next time...

U guys just have not partied to the new Prince music like I have...playing the old jams are cool but when the dj play dabce 4 me with with black sweat folowed by get on the boat and days of wild..it a whole different and better experience imo
Straight Jacket Funk Affair

The concert at the Roskilde Festival in Denmark was a major success for Prince, well received by the audience and by critics. Trust me, I was there, and 65.000 people were diggin' it! Obviously Prince cannot please everyone but at a big festival like this it makes sense to play the hits that most people know and love, since most will not be die-hard Prince fans with a thorough knowledge of his entire catalogue. Devoted fans who have been to many of his shows may be disappointed for this very reason, but the setlist Prince chose was perfectly good and most of the people at the concert loved it. Considering the context, then, I don't see any reason to complain...

That's the most perfectly sensible thing I have ever maybe read here at the org. It's a festival for christ sake. It isn't Prince's show alone. Play the hits. I bet people had a fucking blast. He can rock all the new/obscure shit he wants like crazy when he does his own headlining shows on his own tour. Playing his hits here actually shows restraint and is telling of how experienced a showman Prince is.
