I just saw the skit on The Dave Chappelle show (again) about Charlie Murphy playing ball with Prince back in the day and he mentions Micki Free. I don't recall there being any association. I know Micki was a member of Shalamar after Jody & Howard left, but was there any music done that I'm unaware of?

Prince wanted Micki to join the Prince camp.The plan was for Micki to appear in 'The Dawn',a movie that Prince was writing.Micki was supposed to play the leader of a rival bandcalled The Coco Boys.

Ironically,when Vanity left the Prince camp in late 1983,she began dating Micki.At one point,there was a rumor that she would be joining Shalamar (Jody Watley had just departed for a solo career,and Howardand Micki begun holding auditions).

Also I think Miki thanks Prince in "Circumstantial Evidence" from 1987...."Prince, killer jam session, (We Can Funk!), WOW!"

Btw If you ever see Micki live(Which I would encourage) he is a Prince Clone to the Max!!

Why didn't any collaboration or anything happen with Prince and Micki? Did the Shalamar thing get in the way?

Yep,in the early 90s,Jesse left the group and Micki was considered for the gig.

Yeah,I think Micki was more focused on being the leader of Shalamar.But the two of them have jammed together on a few occasions.Not sure if anything was recorded.

The Time..where did you read that?! Nah....it was Mazarati. His look and musical preference fit Mazarati. Besides Morris split before Jesse did...I don't think he was a clone....I think he just looked as if he could be in camp or may have just been on the same "vibe" as P ....as far as the clothes go.

I read it in Black Beat magazine In early 1991,The Time were getting ready for some Japan concert dates but Jesse was either kicked out of the band or he left on his own (he was going through some drama in his personal life).Prince suggested that the guys hire Micki Free as their guitarist.
