Musicology era 2003-2005

Don't U miss the feeling music gave ya back in the day?

the follow up of the One Night Alone era, called the comeback of Prince
less stage antics, Xpectation, S.S.T. the Chocolate Invasion, the Slaughterhouse,
more focus on the music, the 2nd extension of the coming alive of Prince following Rainbow Children ONA NEWS, and a new wife, reconnection with Wendy Melvoin Sheila E. Lisa Coleman & the Time

Love this era. I was just getting back into following his career after being away for a few years. During that time I only kept up with album releases and knew next to nothing about other Prince news. I had a whole lot of catching up to do.

I really loved his outfits during this era. His whole image was grown and sexy. He even sounded more grounded and assured in his interviews. I really appreciated the stripped down shows that focused more on musicianship too. I'm not one for a lot of bells and whistles and gimmicks so I was thrilled to experience the Musicology tour up close and personal. biggrin

The Musicology album itself was just okay for me but his other releases during this period were excellent IMO.

People say Prince never goes back or looks back, but any true fan knows he does it all the time. This look is a direct connection to Controversy & Lovesexy

During Controversy he started where opposite colored boots and clothing, and the half length coats are specifically from Lovesexy

As well as he did really have 'gimmicks' and 'whistles' in most of his shows up to SOTT/Lovesexy, 1999 had its hot share, Purple Rain had much less, a Parade was a stripped down organic show

ah, i remember that picture. it was posted on his site a while before
the album was released. in fact, i think it was the first time he was
dropping a hint about that new album. we were all speculating on what
it was that he was holding. "is it a new album?"

good times smile

It was because of this album and tour that i got into prince. My mom bought tickets for the concert i was only in 5th grade at the time, and asked her who it was. Then she brought out purple rain and the concert and BAM prince was the shit from then on! I couldnt go to the concert bc i was to young but i just watched ten minute concert footage of him doin D.M.S.R in Detroit and god i wish i was older. mad but anyways..musicology is a great cd i listen to it often one of my favorite eras of his music, it wasnt a comeback, but more of a return to true form cool

... even though the media was saying that this was P's come back album, it did feel like he was subliminally trying to prove something.

I was kind of excited to see Prince return to the pop mainstream for the first time since 1999, but ultimately the album was kind of disappointing.

But the concert was as good as I have ever seen from him. The pacing was masterful and the excitement in the crowd had to have been the best since 1984.

And it was nice to see people talk about Prince again.
