Well the reporter wasnt allowed to right anything down or record anything, so Prince opens himself up to constant misquoting... Change it one more time..

Well unfortunately record stores are closing left and right because people don't actually go to them and buy anything anymore. Thats not his doing, thats the consumer. And why limit yourself to a medium that's dying? Especially when you stand to make more doing what he's currently doing? Change it one more time..

No no. Nothing illegal here.
I'll just have to spend my entire savings to fly to the UK to get a copy. Just as long as another website don't pop up with some cooler than cool 20ten shirts. I don't think I could handle that.
DAMN I want a shirt like his.
But um, yeah not the best moves. That whole exclusive to some thing leaves a nasty taste in this old mouth.

actually, prince is smarter than we think.
he: "the internet is over"
us: "haha, we'll get you, fool! i'll download your shit for free!"
and, what do you know ... it's actually a good album. therefore, he basically made us all download it. lots of internet geeks are all over this shit. read the comments on other web sites. they can't wait for torrents, blogs, megaupload, etc. all wanting to prove a point. we are all playing his game. and i love it.
basically, "20ten" is going to be one of his most popular albums in a long time, simply because a lot of people will download it. and i bet it's a killer record.

The brilliance of not allowing someone to record or take notes is he can retract any statment he wants or to say it's not true.
I can see it now:
PRINCE: ... I have friends who used the Internet. We read the bible together...

Word, it's like he's hopelessly forever to speak only in the "moment'...for like everything he says. Although I'm your biggest fan...I'm also your biggest critic. Can you deal with that?

You are entitled to your opinion. However, I think that you're the one being short sighted & not in touch with the real world.
It doesn't take a genius to realize that what Prince said about the internet was the Truth. It started out as a wonderful thing. A communication & learning tool. But look at it now. It's a haven for Perverts, Porn & Piracy. Don't get me wrong, there are alot of good educational/informative sites out there. However for every 1 positive on the net there are 20 negative ones lurking. Negativity & Hate are rampant on the internet more than ever & seems no end in sight.
I'm sure that the ORG did'nt start out this way, but even here People (not all) are spreading lies, gossip & being hateful. The internet is over (dead). Just a matter of time.
Oh. And by the way this is just my own opinion. Peace. [Edited 7/6/10 22:01pm] Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

So if the intenet will be over, what will the people do? Will we go back and do research at the library? Will we go back to stores and drive miles and miles for merchandise that you once could order online? Will we go back to ordering through paper catalogues? Will we no longer be able to move our money around online?
I just don't understand what "the internet is over" really means. I think things will be refined and even perhaps legislated a bit, but to be "over"....no way. Although I'm your biggest fan...I'm also your biggest critic. Can you deal with that?

My coworker said to me, "so Prince said the internet is over.." as he checked his facebook on ipod touch.
I could not help but to laugh..and say, "dont be talking about my cousin he never can make up his mind".
Then I told him to stop looking at me on the org because the internet was over. Straight Jacket Funk Affair

I live in New York and I can tell you there are no large record stores any longer. Tower Records folded ages ago, Virgin went out of business about a year ago. It's only small shops scattered about the city and Target simply doesn't count since they can only stock a certain amount of CDs and they tend to go with the mainstream over the more eclectic artists. However Prince finds a way to get me his music is fine by me because the wreckastows charged so much and made so little they could afford the rents. $18.99 for a CD at Virgin or Tower was ridiculous and inflated. These companies contributed to their own demise and force artists to be more inventive when it comes to getting the product out. Disc-O-Rama can only hold so many CDs then you have to wait for the next order. I hear the European orgers refer to record stores all the time. They're a thing of the past in the States. When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

With this publicity, he's using downloaders for his own advantage. However, it's like a double-edge sword now: You can either download the album somewhere to rebel against him, and thus aid his new music's popularity by discussing it. OR, you can NOT download the album to rebel against him, but resultingly help his primary agenda of ceasing the sharing of his music online. As usual, the man is quite cunning.... I feel the same way.I don't even read Prince's interviews anymore. He says so many dumb things that make him appear totally clueless and out-of-touch.

Prince's REAL problem with the Internet is that he can't control it.In the mid-90s,he talked excitedly about the Internet and all of its' possibilities. He talked about selling his music on-line directly, without the need for big, evil record companies.Funny how things change. The Internet became this big, popular thing.File-sharing became the norm.Prince hates things that he can't control or dominate. That's the real reason for his silly comments about the Internet being "dead".He's being left behind by something more powerful than he is.

at the end of the day..Prince has been paid well, has extraordinary exposure, and has the internet community talking about him....what else does he need? certainly not any kudos on here....

He's admitting he cant cut it in the marketplace on walk up sales, he wants someone to overpay him $ they cant recoup because he aint that dude anymore. Ya think the itunes braintrust dont know the Target deal inside out (and the legal parties associated) and laugh when he comes to them on that tip?.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
what he isnt getting is many of us were gonna get the album through torrents anyway, and most of us havent seen a paper nor a record store in years. Yet, those of us who participate in this are also consumers of itunes and have no problem buying the new album as a download if he makes it available.

True. Papers and record stores are dying. But his current strategy of building up lots of publicity (positive & negative), getting what we suspect are relatively large paydays from willing papers/magazines and making even more money from ticket sales/advances for festival participation is something that is working currently, and much better than it would only releasing an album in stores/internet, generating buzz and touring... Prince got his album in the hands of almost 3 million people in the UK last time and sold 21 nights at 02. Does anyone seriously think he would have sold 3 million CD's in the UK or sold all those nights if he didn't have additional buzz and interest by getting his music to people who weren't traditional Prince fans? 3121 only sold 80K in the UK! So he knows what can work for him. Its just being smart. As usual with trendsetters, they're lambasted in the present and then admired years afterwards for doing what others are too pussy or not imaginative enough to do... Change it one more time..
