Another Lonely Christmas question Is "Another Lonely Christmas" an actual Revolution song? I mean saying Bobby, Mark, Fink, Lisa and Wendy are playing on this tune. From what I have been reading it seems there are very few actual "Revolution" Recordings {Disclaimer I do a search and did not find the answer before you guys pounce on me}

To my knowledge, the song was not played by the full band. I believe Lisa and Wendy did some studio work on it, however. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I'm with Genesia on this one, and i cannot seem to find any information regarding the recording of it.

I'm thinking it wasn't either. The song was performed live at a Purple Rain show in St Paul, MN on Dec 26, 1984 and you can hear Prince calling out the chord changes for the band. By this time the single was already released. You would think if the Revolution would have been in the recording that they would have known the song. TRUE BLUE

Ok, did some digging. All i can tell you is that 'Another Lonely Christmas' was recorded between 27th December 1983 and mid-April (no specific date) 1984. It was recorded at Sunset Sound studio in Los Angeles. Recording Guests in the studio during this time were Wendy, Lisa, David Coleman, Jill Jones and Jonathon Melvoin. So it seems that the song was not a full band recording, but may have included input from any of the names mentioned.

ALC was recorded February 18, 1984 at Sunset Sound. It was just him. During this short stint of creativity at the studios, he also recorded "Erotic City", "17 Days", "She's Always In My Hair", "Paisley Park", and "Pop Life".

But aren't most of those Linn Drum driven? So doesn't that leave Bobby

I thought Darling Nikki was just Prince?

Bobby played along with the Linn a lot of times, remember. "Darling Nikki" - there's an outtake where you can hear him cueing the band to play, namely saying "Play ni**a!" to whoever is playing drums.

One of the Purple Rush boots has a rehearsal of "Another Lonely Christmas" and Prince seems to be teaching the band there parts. Pretty cool stuff and it was pretty obvious that the band hadnt played it before.
Also...I think "Mountains" and "Anotherlover..." from Parade are full Revolution performances as well. I'm pretty sure about Mountains...not too positive about Anotherlover... She has robes and she has monkeys, lazy diamond studded flunkies....
