Love Song appreciation

I love this track off Like a Prayer... I love how Prince teases with the sparse guitar licks... I know it's not a favorite among fans, but I loved this track from the moment I heard it.

It's not a great duet. There are a dozen songs that would have been better as a duet with them, if they really wanted to work together. But them not even really being in the studio together (a lot of it was written via fax messages between the two) never really allowed any synergy to kick up for a great song.

In the context of her album, which is brilliant, it's a sore thumb. It's too quirky, and sounds more like a weird left over Lovesexy, or future Graffiti Bridge, track, than a Madonna/Prince collaboration.

Yeah, I like this song too. I bought the "Like A Prayer" 1st edition vinyl LP with a perfume smell..... very nice, it still smells after all those years.

I bought this Madonna album only because of that Prince duet song on it, I have never cared too much for Madonna's music,

Madonna.... she's no real artist, she can't even sing clear at a concert.

But... that's another subject lol....

"Love Song".. I especially love the chorus, "Are You Wasting My Time, are You Just Being Kind...." very good, too bad there was no video.

as lackluster a superstar duet as this is, I'd say "Dear Jessie" is the worst song on the album.

no no no! "Dear Jessie" is to Like A Prayer", as "Starfish and Coffee" is to Sign O The Times.

hmmm it's definitely my fave track on the album. but I agree it doesn't fit into the rest of the album. it stands out too much as a Prince track.

Yes, I am a fan too. Quirky and weird. Love the harmonies. To me, it sounds like it belongs on Batman. I love Batman.

Interesting song. Experimental and off-center, perfect choice for the collaboration. Isn't Prince's guitar all over the album?

sounds like Batman to me as well with the spooky synths and that sledghammer-on-a-railroad-spike drum. both albums would have been improved if Love Song was replaced on LAP with Supernatural and Love Song replaced The Arms Of Orion on Batman

I like it,but I think it's the one of the weakest tracks on LAP.The other tracks are so much stronger.

It's an interesting song, but I can see why it wasn't released as a single.

SoulAlive

the best part is the final verse, where Madonna sounds truly pissed off as she tells Prince...

don't try to tell me what your enemies taught you!

I'm gone, but I just want to you know

That this is not a love song that I want to sing

lol

Maybe my being a fan of both when I first heard it as a kid colored my impression of it, but I've always thought it was pretty on point. It wasn't the best vocal performance by Prince (he does that whiney grandma voice, noticeable on when he says "are you wasting my tiiiiiiiime"), but the song is cool. You can certainly tell they weren't anywhere near each other when the song was done as it sounds (typically) like a Prince song with Madonna doing guest vocals.
