Holy fuckin' moly.
I know one of Stevie's back-up singers. Gotta ask him about this. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

^^^ Thanks for the vid.
Prince looks good! And so does Sheila. That was cute when they hugged after she handed him the guitar. The song is tight.

i think prince choked again like on james brown ... stevie looked like he was wonderin when prince was gonna play something interesting .. i dont think prince knew that song .. his lil fills sounded a bit off .. stevie is so awesome . he came in with that crazy keyboard solo to breath some life back in the song ...

Completely made my day!
I'm firmly planted in denial

He did fine. What did you want him to do the splits up there? His playing augmented the song, didn't overshadow or hot dog it up there. Less is more.

Watching now... very cool! Damn I wish he'd work with some of the other true artists! BTW, Sheila E. = 'The Hawtness' regardless of her age!

B.S. If you look around there is other footage of P playing with Stevie at Madison Square Garden. He certainly knows the songs.

Prince seems as though he is in such a great place in his life. One day being honored at BET, followed by an after-hours gig. Attending an LA concert of the jazz great Cassandra Wilson. Joining Stevie Wonder on stage with his best friend Sheila E, in one of the most beautiful cities in the world. On the eve of releasing another album on his own terms. Life can be so nice.

Me too. He signaled the band like he wanted to get some, but then played a VERY safe rhythm part. Stevie signaled to Prince to go ahead and hit it, but Prince layed back again. Odd.

His guitar riffs were great and very funky. It would be ease for him to do solos and shit but he was classy. I just didnt like the first fill in the beginning, he was kinda out but then ig turned out great.

Dam, forget at 50. Most of us wish we looked that good now. Both of them look hot. [Edited 7/1/10 21:16pm]

Seemed to me that Prince was just trying to stay out of the way, comping waay in the back, not using his rock distortion tone . Maybe a respect thing, didn't want to steal the spotlight from Stevie? Take it - like Clarence said:
"I got a million of them - all different U know."

I posted this in "Concert"s.
True, while P got a great reception, his contribution was strangely lame.
