the best live version of.... I used to have this tape...of some show...from somewhere I don't even know, it may have been atlanta. All I know is it had THE best live version of purple rain on it...it was a full length version or close to it. I listened to that tape so much that one day...it broke! :OMG: (and my boyfriend was like "YES"!) I never made a copy of it!!! Now I would LOVE to get my hands on a great live version of purple rain again. Can anyone tell me what their fav version is and where it comes from? please! thanx "not a fan" yeah...ok

1986 from the last show with The Revolution. That solo is amazing!! I think I read that he broke several strings of the guitar on that one. It sounds highly likely. Life it ain't real funky unless you got that orgPop.

Man, I never liked Purple Rain that much. I always thought it was so drawn out and long...until I heard the version from the RAVE INTO YEAR 2000 dvd. His performance on that was just incredible and you could see his fierce expresions all over his face. This made me finally love Purple Rain and now I acually enjoy listening to the long versions.
Amazing what some time and a great performance can do for someone. "
First I need a picture of your mother, to verify the fact that there's not another one in the universe so supreme!!"

It's a toss-up between Syracuse '85 and First Ave '83. I don't feel the actual sounding of the song in First Ave '83 is his best, but if you watch his performance (the first ever live performance of Purple Rain) and see the emotion on his face, and see how 5 minutes earlier he accepted a reward in MPLS on stage and he was clean and dry, but when he comes out for the enocre of Purple Rain he is drenched in sweat so caught up in emotion that he can't even sing the first line to the song when he is supposed to, that might be my favorite performance. My favorite sounding performance is Syracuse '85.
