The Prince 0f 1984 would've laughed at the 2010 prince of today if u gave Prince a crystal ball to see his future back in 1984... he would'nt believe his eyes and ears... The prince of back then was in your face but in a cool nasty way.. he would sing songs of lust, sex, god,spirituality,... all rolled up into one... Prince would keep u off balance to what phase he would've go into next... The man was a musical chamelion..... Prince used to "set ur mind free"... The prince of today changes the lyrics to his old songs... It's like a paintist going back to ruin a masterpiece which should never be touched... I miss the dirty mind era....... Prince was like fuck this.. which resulted in a garage rock/newwave... groundbreaking sound............. The 26 year old Prince would see that crystal ball and say"what i regret what drives me creatively.....don't curse"fuck that!'................. I can't believe the prince of 1984 has turned into today's hyprocrit........... But saying all of that.. i'm always going to be a fan of his............ it's just frustrating being a fan at times... what does the prince family on here think about all of this? BOB4theFUNK

I seriously doubt that.
You don't know Prince.
You're not associated with him.
You're not his lawyer, doctor, accountant, psychiatri st, pastor, parent, or lover.
The Prince of 1984 was 26 years old.
I'm glad Prince isn't like he was in 1984.
Because it's not 1984, it's 2010.
You know what the 1984 me would do to the 2010 me? He'd poop his pants and start crying, because I was 1 year old in '84.
You're not psychic and you don't have a time machine. So don't pretend that you know what someone was thinking 26 years ago.,

I don't care how PRINCE was in 1984 or IS in 2010. But I sure do wish his MUSIC moved me like it did back then.

All of this says more about you than it does about Prince. You said it yourself. You`re frustrated. Now don`t. He isn`t. He`s happy. Come on - be happy.

Furthermore, I think you'd find anyone laughing harder in 2010 when they look back at a pic of themselves in 1984!
To the OP - a lot of people have a "fuck you" attitude when they're in their teens and 20s - most people lose that edge as they grow older. There are lots of reasons for this, but it will all come to you too ...we have only scratched the surface of what the mind can do...

If a person FAILED to mature and change from their twenties to their fifties there'd be something seriously wrong with them. Its life. Get over it... Change it one more time..

I'm pretty sure he was speaking of musically wishing it was the 1984 Prince, not personally. The 1984 Prince MUSICALLY was on fire and had endless source, or so it seemed, of creative sources and juices.
The personal part is kind of a whatev.

Your right he would laugh and today's prince would look at that immature kid and just shake his head and say "you got alot of growing up to do , son".
Not much different than any other 52 yr old looking at an immature person in thier 20's......... Stand Up! Everybody, this is your life!

Is there any 20-something who wouldn't look at their 50-something self with a combination of amusement and horror? We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I don't laugh at my 1984 pictures. What I do think of when I look back is how much time I wasted thinking I wasn't thin enough or pretty enough. I'd give anything to look now the way I looked then.
I do regret a few of those clothes, though. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Yes, locking your mind and only listening to the babblings of a cult = being mature.
In the early 1980s, Prince met Santana, and was disappointed afterwards because Santana was only talking about his guru etc.
Prince is happy? How do you know? Because he says so? In an interview that's full of bullshit, hype and lies? Oh, and for a happy, "spiritual" man he does a lot of bitching, and he's unable to reconcile with people he's hurt in the past.
Back in the 1980s Prince didn't wanna end up being an oldies act. In Monaco in 2009, the average age of the songs he played was 25+ years.
Oh, and FYI: people who saw Prince at the Celebrations a couple of years ago, reported how amazed he looked when watching the videos from his concerts from the 1980s.
The Prince of 2010 is mature? So that's why he answers "I could tell you but then I'd have to kill you" when Hans-Maarten Post asks him what his business model is beyond sticking free CDs on lousy newspapers for a large cash advance.
Based on all that, I'd say that the OP is largely correct; and moreover, the Prince of 1984 would be right in mocking the Prince of 2010. © Bart Van Hemelen

the absolute worst stories about Prince would be no surprise to me. got a gut feeling he knows the score too.
i got a theory that a lot of folks will most likely recoil in horror when they hear it, but it's only a theory and not intended to offend anyone in any way, least of all Prince:
sociopaths are born, not made. he's been a sociopath all his life. sociopaths tend to poison everything they touch.
the ladies love Prince because they love the act he puts on, ladies man charming lover with quite the way with words, plus his good looks.
the guys love the music and his attitude, but much less these days, as the novelty is wearing a bit thin, even Prince can't keep up with his own game.
that being said, i still think he's owed a high degree of respect for the work he's put in to his career, the prolific amounts of music, music that changed a lot of people lives for the better.
so whether he's a sociopathic immature megalomaniacal asshole or not, he's still done a lot of good.
jilted lovers and co-workers may disagree. unsatisfied fans may disagree even more, but maybe the most reasonable approach to making comments about him in any negative way (no matter how truthful) is to lace that opinion with some genuine respect.
i think it's a respect he deserves, and believe me, i dont have much time for sociopaths. they need to do something extra special to impress me.
this too shall pass | |

Prince "poison(s) everything (he) touch(es)"? Seriously? We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

The funny thing is Prince hasn't changed or matured like so many people keep saying. He's still the same arrogant egotistical asshole he always was. The only difference is 1984 Prince was surrounded by good musicians with an strong urge to make creative, great music and 2010 Prince is surrounded by studio musicians who have an urge to keep a job.
Oh, one more thing. The older I get, the more I shake my head at the younger kids. Not because I think they are doing things that are wrong, but because I think how me and my friends did wrong so much better! LIVE LIFE TO THE FULLEST KIDDIES!!!!!

Prince has always been a believer in musical freedom and the exploration of different directions in sound, subject matter and performance.
I personally do not think he would laughed at the 2010 version of himself. Instead, I think he might be enlightened.

You're entitled to your oppinion but, I just to apply what you're saying to myself. If I could step outside myself and look at how I was 10 or 20yrs ago I would've kicked my own ass ... LoL
I was this egotistical know-it-all that thought the world revolved around me. Then I had my son 8yrs ago and KNEW it wasn't about me but, about him.
Prince is the same way. I just read the JET magazine article about Prince and they were saying something similiar to what you just said. Let's remember, cat was 20 somethin' along with Bobby, Fink, Dez, Andre' or BrownMark, Wendy & Lisa and they were all as Lisa or Wendy said "We were Fearless". Now not so much. I like the Prince of today. His lyrics remind me of my own religion and my own thinking about GOD and life.
Yeah, the Prince of Purple Rain would look at Prince of today like "we" looked at our parents and would think they were old a$$ decrepit people who knew nothing about life or how to live. DAMN, I'm glad I was so wrong ... LoL
Peace ... & Stay Funky ...

U have that backwards, my friend.
The Prince of 2010 KNOWS the Prince of 1984, and he's laughing at him.
Prince is seriously far more advanced musicall and vocally then he was then. Better songwriter 2.

I think the 1984 Prince would be more pissed off at the price of GAS in 2010 moreso then anything else...Oh, and the tragedy of the Raiders moving out of L.A. and back to Oakland. Now the 1984 Strike is pissed at the 2010 Strike! A'hole!!!!
