Strongest group of material since....?

For me personally I would say Rainbow Children. Before that probably the love symbol album. Different people like different records though, you know? I thought Rainbow Children was a fucking fantastic reinvention and was musically amazing. Other people HATE that record. Some people think 'The Gold Experience' is a major classic while I just sort of like a couple of songs on it and find the NPG Operator things to be CRAZY annoying. Etc etc.

I LOVE TRC!! It's just all around fantastic. smile The message is great and the grooves are even better. hug

Just listened once through, thanks to some truly BEAUTIFUL ONES.

and I'm sorry to say that it's not much new.

Some funky moments, the production's still stuck in that bland retro limbo.

Lyrics are literally immaterial. Nothing gripping.

Definitely no chance at any radio play.

Not to much to speak of vocally, he's taking it easy on this one.

More thoughts as they come.

I would rather spend 77 dollars 4 a download than search helplessly on google for his new album.

Interesting to me that Itunes and Amazon have nothing pre-order wise for 20ten. I wonder if us americans will be able to buy it.....

All this talk in America hasn't even mentioned the album being possibly released here. I thought there would be talk about it by now but no. So only UK, Germany, Belgian and Portugal fans can get it for free? I know some US fans will likely buy an import, but I guess there's no pre-orders for an import issue on Amazon.

I'm listening to the album, in full, right now.

It's out there.

Quick notes:

"Future Soul Song" is nice, and has a very similar drum pattern to "The Beautiful Ones'.

"Sticky Like Glue" has a very strong older late 70's and early 80's soul vibe to it sometimes. Prince does a rap/talk type thing in it like "Mr. Goodnight", sort of. Not bad though.

"Beginning Endlessly" goes on a bit too long.

"Act of God" - very driving beat. Prince talks about being evicted and paying taxes. lol (Really, the first verse is about that). "I got news for you, freedom aint' free. They'll lock you in a cell if you try to be..." It's all very anti-establishment, with pepperings of JW, but not harsh. It's all about corporations, money, taxes, etc. I dig the music though.

"Lavaux" very much sounds like something he could have recorded (musically) for The Time in 1981. Very synth heavy. Has a fun 80's vibe to it, but again it's more like a protege track, not what he'd use for his own. "Whatever path I choose, will lead me home." Talks a lot about being freedom. "Ain't nobody got no chains on me..." Musically, I dig it. It's classic Prince. Lyrically, unfortunately it's current Prince.

Everybody Loves Me" has another synth heavy driving beat, similar to an early Time song. However, the chord changes remind you of a Brady Bunch or Partridge Family song, right down to the toy piano sound in certain breaks. Very head-boppy. I could see Elmo singing it on Sesame Street.

The hidden track, track 77, is "Laydown". Sounds like some shit Eminem pissed out and threw away. This is the "purple yoda" song. not thrilled with it.

I can't give it an overall grade just yet, but it's not bad. It's not the best since SOTT, and it's not as bad as Musicology.

I would love for someone to have mercy and "compassion" on me, if one would be so kind.

only real negative thing to say is that most of these songs end too quickly. i wouldn't mind half of them to
be rolling on for another two or three minutes. he created some great beats that would have lent themselves
well to lengthy stretched out tunes with lots of solo's, a la the 1999 album. but maybe a nice short

and to the point prince album was needed at this point. i don't know.

nod I agree. They're all quite short and don't go doing the usual 'extended' stuff Prince does, but is that a bad thing? I don't know either.

Well I'm glad to hear that considering I love TRC. Always have. It's prolly the last time I was kinda blown away by a Prince abum. Not that I haven't enjoyed stuff since then I have. It's just that the TRC album really floored me in a good unexpected way. And don't worry I know 20ten is not TRC. cool Enjoying most people's enthusiasm around here. It's refreshing.
