Your Favorite Maxi CD Single? Lately I've had the "New Power Generation" Maxi CD Single on repeat quite a bit.
I've got quite a few of these "Maxi" singles, "Cream," "Gett Off", etc. but not all.
What is the best stand alone Maxi Single CD?

The Scandalous Sex Suite

I Wish U Heaven parts I,II,III

If we're sticking strictly to Maxi Singles, then:
New Power Generation - the last 3 songs especially
Gett Off - good stuff there
The Beautiful Experience - great through and through
Cream - those mixes just bounce from one to the other, and are really good.
The Purple Medley - just love the slew of songs
Space - great set of versions and remixes; the "Universal Love" mix is a whole new song, almost like part 2 of the original

Cool about Gett Off on CD - something for me to search for.
I'll definitely throw a second on Cream and The Beautiful Experience as well. Even though there's a bit of cheese on both releases, imo.

Scandalous Sex Suite - Japanese. New Power Generation - Japanese. My Name Is Prince - Japanese. Gett Off - All configurations of this one. The Beautiful Experience. Get Wild - Maxi. Space & Letitgo - Remix Maxi's. The Good Life - Maxi (not strictly Prince, but cool if you like Exodus, nice remixes) Cream - 9trk Maxi. SST - (not really a maxi, but nice to have)
Those are my favorites, there are a load of other cd/vinyl singles but i would not really call them 'maxi' singles as such, they maybe only feature 2 or 3 tracks, and a lot of them have album tracks as 'b-sides.' The ones with non album 'b-sides' are nice to collect though.

If I had to name only ONE , then I´d say I Hate U because of the bass-heavy remix and the extra lyrics ..... you know, he mentions that feather in the movie Forrest Gump....floating through the air etc., and the all time favorite" U gave a dog a place to bone, and now your ass is all alone." Classic! I also like the instrumental version with Eric Leeds ( Quiet Nite Mix).
Most of the Diamonds and Pearls maxis were also a treat. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

Remember, the LD is a video maxi, not a regular audio maxi. And yes, it's on CD. It's in a digipak of sorts, not a jewel case. Same cover as the video maxi, etc.

Yes, the 'I Hate U' remixes are nice to listen to. The 'Quiet Night Mix' is good.

Whichever one had the extended b-side, "hello" on it.
Also, basically anything from the Around The World In a Day and Parade timeframe (LOVE the extended Mountains and Kiss maxis)

Dudes, I thought this thread was about maxi CD singles. CD as in "not the vinyl cult maxis from the 80s".
If it´s okay to include the vinyl releases, I´d like to add Let´s Go Crazy and I Would Die 4 U to my post above. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

You don't have to include VINYL maxis exclusively for your choice, since both remixes mentioned by you have been released on CD-MAXI (at least in good ole Europe)....

Dude. I don't care if it's a maxi pad. It's got jaaAAAAAms.
Also, I've been collected Prince vinyl since 1984, so I've never bothered to even look for most releases on CD. It wasn't until there started to be different or exclusive CD releases (such as some of the NPG Records stuff) that I started purchasing them. So for me, most of these things only exist on vinyl. I've worn out two copies of some of them, but kept the old ones. So I actually have three copies of some of the same releases.

I ain't arguin' about it. I'm just answering the question about it being on CD.

I believe I love all of the extended 12 inches.
From "Sexy Dancer (Long version)" 1979 to "Space (Universal Love Remix)" 1994.. and all in- between.
Especially those 12 inches from Around The World In A Day: She's Always In My Hair (Ext. version) Paisley Park (Ext. version) Pop Life (Ext. version UK 9 minutes) America (Ext. version) Hello (Ext. version) Girl (Ext. version)
(But from 1994 to 2009, there haven't been any good ones, right?)
edit: oops: not exactly on CD.... [Edited 7/1/10 11:50am] Prince 4Ever.

errrr I wasn't arguin' about it either. Hence the joke about a maxi pad. You seem to be a rather serious fellow. ........ that's all.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I know you were jokin'. I'm quite not a serious fellow. The opposite actually. It's like sayin, "I ain't hatin' on ya'" or something like that. Just a thang.

I Hate U and Come On were quite good. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

Space - except I have it on vinyl, rather than CD. [Edited 7/1/10 13:50pm] We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

OMG how could I forget the maxi to "7" from Love that acoustic mix.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I think the acoustic version is better than the one on the album. Same with Space from Come.
[Edited 7/1/10 16:28pm]
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Agreed. I'd kind of like to mix the album and acoustic version into one mix. kind of like a band starting out acoustic, then going into a full on band version, then mix the Universal Love Mix on the end, as a "tag" ending, or a section movement. Kind of how "Computer Blue" has different sections.
