When I saw Purple Rain for the very first time it felt like he was singing it to me, he looked right at me... and I felt the power of this song….…I love ‘the beautiful ones’, always have…for me it’s the words and the emotion, more than the voice…Yes his voice is fantastic…..no one can ever sing this song like he did.

And I’ll just quickly add that I felt like getting up there and then at the crowded movies and yelling out to him…I’s you, but I didn’t…so I’ll do it now…It’s You!!!

I actually think it was either Al Green, Marvin Gaye or Luther Vandross for a solo singer and the harmonies of the Stylistics as a group. But if you listen to Adore, you can easily be tempted into thinking its actually Prince who has the best falsetto of all time.

He's got a good voice, but not the best. He has a pretty cool falsetto and when he screams, it sounds more in pitch then when a lot of other singers scream.

Voices are so damn different though, it's hard to nail down the "best" singer.

his voice is the best , to me anyway and the beautiful ones is one of the best songs of all time.

I definitely agree. Prince's lead vocal is the musical element of him that I like the least - he has a thin voice. But his backing vocals are incredible.

prince has one of the most versatile voices....like they said on the BET Awards, very few can go from falsetto, to tenor, to bass and still sound good in every songs. It's not one of the best voices and there are many many male singers with better tones but Prince's voice is unique and he uses it like a pro!
