Thanks for posting that. I love his song "Do Angel cry". Such a pity he died so young . With a very special thank you to Tina: Is hammer already absolute, how much some people verändern...ICH hope is never so I will be! And if, then I hope that I would then have wen in my environment who joins me in the A....

your welcome. i agree Do Angels Cry is an amazing song. Lynden's favourite song of all time was Adore. but his rendition of IIWYGF was very cool

I agree that Maxwell could possibly pull it off. After his rendition of Kate Bush's "This Woman's Work" I would at least give him the benefit of the doubt. It seems like he understands the power in the gender role-reversal concept; I think he would get what "If I Was Your Girlfriend" was about and be able to sing it passionately.

^^ I think Maxwell might be the only dude who could totally breathe yet even more life into that song, and rock it all over again. It might be the 2nd best cover I've never heard of a Prince song (Esperanza is still the best cover in 25+ years, to me).

D'angelo could do it . Also , Van Hunt and possibly Justin Timberlake . Maxwell could do it. Also, I never cared for the TLC cover. [Edited 6/30/10 19:58pm]

D'angelo had his Prince cover. JT - no way. He's been sweatin' Prince since FutureSexLoveSounds.
No idea who Van Hunt is, or what he/they sound like.

I've listened to your show and I'd guess you'd probably like Van Hunt if you heard any of his stuff. JT could do it. It's not a question of wether or not he has tried to emulate Prince . The question is does he have the talent to pull it off. I say yes. I'm closing in on 40 years old so understand, this isn't coming from some youngin' raised on fabricated 90's pop stars . I've been with P since the very start . That said , you have to give Timberlake credit. The kid is talented , he's got the funk, and he can play a few instruments to boot. I think he could do it and the lady's would love it.

Thanks for listening to the show, first off.
I do give JT some credit for what he's done. I own the album, and the tour DVD. He REALLY borrowed a lot of Prince on that album, lyrically and musically.
I'll take a peek at Van Hunt tomorrow. I have a show to call into tonight.

Ernest - try to track down the following Van Hunt tracks - Suspicion, Character, Hole in My Heart, Lowest One of My Desires, Dust, SNM. Van Hunt is a monster. He's has an amazing falsetto, to me second only to Prince. Please let me know your thoughts when you're able to give him a listen.

That's right! I'd love to hear him do a cover. Except I think he would have to do a power-vocal version, similar to how Prince performed it on Oprah. "You put water into a cup, it becomes the cup...Now water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend." - Bruce Lee

Van Hunt is a good choice I think.
On a random note, I kinda think Cee-lo or Gnarls Barkley might make it crazy sounding.
I only wish D'Angelo would get his shit together & make some music. He would do it justice.
Esparanza Spaulding had a great performance, loved her vocals & thought it was cool she was playing.
I was disappointed w/ the whole tribute & delivery of the show, but there were some great musical moments to be remembered from it.

I'm sure almost no one will agree with me on this
But i think Bob Dylan even with his not so great voice now would be a good choice IMO because he has taken so many risk's musically i could see him doing this i mean he did an accoustic version of Mama Said Knock You Out
Besides him i would say Bowie defintley
i think Stevie Wonder would do a fantastic cover to even though it might be odd hearing him sing it at first Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

Now those would be some interesting covers especially Jack White... John Mayer is an excellent musician but sometimes his voice however good it might be still bothers me when he`s covering Jimi... I love the effort though!

I wonder if he was addressing or thinking of Wendy & Lisa on this song? "So fierce U look 2night, the brightest star pales 2 Ur sex..."

I'd love to heara a guitar-heavy rock version. I thought Lenny Kravitz (like the previous post), but also think it might be kinda cool to hear Aerosmith take it on!

It's not that simple, really.
He's actually talking about his relationship with Susannah. There was a bit of innocent jealously he had with Susannah because Susannah and Wendy being twins had a connection that other folks who aren't twins can't understand. I'll never understand the twin connection. My grandpa was a twin, but no one in our immediate and subsequent family have been twins. He was just saying to Susannah that "if I was as close to you as you are to your twin, would you tell me all those things? Would you let me do _________ and __________?"
So it's more about Susannah, but obviously you can't talk about Susannah without thinking about Wendy. Nothing to do with Lisa.
Susannah also inspired stuff like "The Beautiful Ones", "Strange Relationship", "Nothing Compares 2 U" (although there's a differing Jerome story that I don't buy), "Starfish & Coffee", "The Ballad of Dorothy Parker" (in a round about way), and more.
