No. Different albums. Here's why, and I'll base my answer on one of many elements between the two albums.
MPLSound is a bad throwback to Kirk Johnson programming. It sounds like demos, but the element I want to point out is that all that 80's Linn programming that he hyped the album to sound like (yeah, as much as he tries to deny a Revolution reunion or any other reunion, all he does it revisit that era in his music and press), sounds more like he added the Linn as an afterthought, trying to give the 80's fans something to listen to. The foolish ones heralded it as a return to his old sound, when it fact it instantly sounded dated, unoriginal, and half-assed.
Now, fast forward a year to 20Ten is more a true throwback for him. The difference is that those songs sound like he built them around, and off of, a Linn drum pattern, instead of adding the Linn later to try and recapture something.
Mixing those two albums would be like mixing Dirty Mind and Graffiti Bridge. Oil and water.
20Ten is quite good on its own. No need to muddy it up with some garbage like MPLSound. | |
