What is Prince's favorite Prince song?...

He's said before that his songs are his children. He can't pick a favorite. But he MUST have one. Artists know what their best work is. He's at a point now (has been for a while) where he knows his best work is done. So he recollects, reminisces, remembers.

I'm going to say the No. 1 favorite of his songs is When Doves Cry. Not just because it's semi-autobiographical. Not because it's cliché to say so. Simply because, I feel, the raw poetry with the absolute breathtaking freshness of the sound combined with the mystical way it conveyed him to a new world deems it so.

You can hear it and see it in rehearsals and live how it transformed him into a magician of sorts. I feel he recognizes it has his most superlative track. Just my opinion, of course.

What do you feel is his favorite of his songs?

Or has he said and I missed it.

He's always said it's "Purple Rain".

He's said it on Leno, Ellen, and in interviews. Yet again (like he said 10 years ago), he told Leno he was going to stop playing some of his hits, to make room for others (like he said 10 years ago). Leno asked what's one song he never gets tired of playing, aka his favorite, and he instantly said, "Purple Rain".

I'm confused...

Ernest answered the question, even provided an example.

A smartass would have said THAT to begin with.

Why did you ask then?

"Love Hurts.
Your lies, they cut me.
Now your words don't mean a thing.
I don't give a damn if you ever loved me..."

Or, given the information I gave you, go dig it up on YouTube or one of the other usual places.

I saw your previous response to a similar question left much to the imagination, which intrigued me to your current "10-year" response.

I still believe your first response was correct, which validates my question.

Link?

Peace, Mr. Knowitall.

Why are you asking for a link to a youtube video? You know that's against the rules right? They're not rare interviews, IIRC they're both during the musicology era and will be easy to find. wink

Uh, never said I was asking for a youtube link, per se. Just a link. That's illegal? LOL.

In a radio interview around 1986/87 he said his favourite ALBUM was Around the World in a Day. I think, but I'm not certain that this was post-Parade (and almost definitely pre-Sign o' the Times).

Do you believe PR is his favourite song. I think he said that coz even he knows he will always have to perform it. You'd think it would get on his nerves by now-it got on my nerves at the time

Why are you so lazy? Why don't you go look it up? You want a link, here's one: www.youtube.com Knock yourself out. I have you specific examples, and you refuse to verify that for yourself. No one here is going to do the work for you. People KNOW things because 1) theyv'e seen it first hand, or 2) they've done the footwork on it to find out.

I know what he said, because I have it, and put it on a DVD. If you choose to believe an untruth, then you have your reward.
