Have Prince's fan let him down?

i mean, is this a fan site or a hater site. seems like he gets way more hate and passive aggresive opinions about him on here. i think he might be broken hearted about it all. we should all be her 2 love him and his music, not constsntly tea him down. Last straw was reading this long write up about his latest internet comments as usual with these haters its starts with some fake love, " no everyone know Prince is one of my musical heroes....." then just ends up as the usual hate article about he is out of touch, cant make good music anymore, rewriting history etc. really is a shame.

OK. Now that you've said it, I hope you are feeling better.

It's been theorized that the music industry could never make another Prince. Or Jay-Z, Kid Rock, Metallica, AC/DC or the Beatles, for that matter. The media landscape is simply too decentralized, music fans too distracted, recording valuations too depressed to produce such mega-superstars again. History will judge that theory, but in the here-and-now, stars-of-old have to make some serious choices about their legacies.
Who knew that Prince was so out-of-touch. But outside the superfan contingent, hardly anyone knows that a new Prince album even exists. And perhaps that's the point. Sure, iTunes is not sending Prince a hefty advance for 20Ten, they take a handsome piece of the sale, and they offer only modest amounts of consumer data. But they'll definitely make it easy for fans to find the album, and they just might promote the release as well. It will exist.
So why restrict? Certainly, it's more profitable to sell a traditional CD or site-served album download. A covermount deal has an advance. But just like the old days, music remains an impulse buy, and that impulse often strikes in Apple's home court. The content has to be everywhere, even if the terms are unfulfilling - or nonexistent - over there.
Newer artists play the iTunes game, simply because they have no other choice! The hounds of obscurity will consume anyone that demands premium profit over presence. But wait: superstars-of-old face the same reality, at least if they want to continue to build their musical legacies.
And, there's no better time to start a band or release new material than right now, simply because there's no other time available! Want to wait until 2015? It rarely works that way, so artists had better maximize their prospects now while the creative energy is highest.
Then again, not everyone is fighting the tide. Radiohead and Trent Reznor are still innovating, so why can't Prince move beyond the covermount?
Too bad, because Prince - and any artist with an older core - has it relatively easy. Sure, younger fans will steal the album, cherry pick a few tracks if they pay, balk at expensive tickets, and plop Prince into a collection of 20,000 MP3s. But older fans will purchase an overpriced disc, and those whose mortgages are still intact might even attend a show or buy a DVD.
In fact, that's the saving grace for many older acts. Susan Boyle only has a modest presence online, but her disc sales are fantastic. Who says the album bundle is dead? Turns out that the artists enjoying that rare combination of mainstream awareness and older interest are the real winners right now. At least until this industry figures out how to create another generation of Princes.

The better question would be: has Prince let his fans down?

Or have we forgotten.... screwing fans over multiple times with scam websites. Suing fan sites. Abandoning projects shortly after their release. Performing the same lazy setlists over and over again.

Prince should be grateful that as many fans have stuck with him through all the BS because of the love of his music.

And whats' negative to one is the TRUTH to another. It's correct that non-ass kissers are usually labeled the "haters" or the "negative" folks, but in reality, it's called being level-headed, logical, and having a valid opinion. Yes, "everyone has an opinion, like an asshole - and they all stink", but in the end, iron sharpens iron. Prince listens to his fans, to some extent, whether we believe it or not. He's answered his fans numerous times, "Pearls B4 The Swine", "No More Candy 4 U" to name a couple.

That doesn't mean he's leaning on us for direction, guidance, or inspiration either. But he's trying stuff out, it seems. Some critics are raving about 20Ten, while others here have heard 30 seconds of song and have already trashed the whole (99% unheard) record.

If you want someone who loves Prince all the time and all the things he does including his weaker output, his shady and dishonest business ventures, and his hypocritical religious rants - then go start a vigil outside Paisley Park.

You, or anyone else, cannot speak to someone's "fake love". Think about your statement. How the hell is going to take the time to actually come here, pose as a Prince fan, then trash him and everything he's ever done? What point is there in that? What's the purpose? I can't fucking stand Britney Spears or Rihanna, but I'm surely not searching out a fan forum to join and cut 'em up on either.

We're HONEST about what we see happening in Prince's music, and people are very honest when they pay Prince $77, or $100 or whatever, and get ripped off. There are two things you don't mess with in folk's lives: Their religion and their money. Prince has messed with both, to some extent, in fan's lives.

I've love to just hear his music too, when he can decide to put something out worthy of hearing more than a couple of times. On my radio show, some Prince fans from the Org said their expectations for 20Ten was, "as long as there are two or three good ones, I'm happy with that". How sad for all of us, when we've had to demote our own expectations to such a low point w/ Prince's music; a man that we once would eat up every single song on an album and not think twice. Now, we're just pickin' at our food - and most times lost our appetite. Thank God for left overs.

Prince ain't broken hearted. Being broken hearted is over. We want our emotional investment in advance. lol

Sweething

1. People are quick to take Prince's statements at face value; however as the Blog mentioned in another thread alludes....folks should think about the full implication of what Prince is saying, it does make sense (if you stop drinking the koolaid and think). Some "critics" are lazy at best and just want a reason to continue their rant against Prince.

2. On that note, its obvious that there are some (on this board) and others I'm sure who've gotten "bit" or perceived they've been bitten by Prince....they're bitter and they make it their goal in life to try to return the favor.

3. Its hard for some to understand that it is impossible to "own" someone who is intelligent, beautifull and free. Yet some try and inevitably end up frustrated. In the end they simply build ill-will with the person the're trying to possess. Some "regulars" on this board act as if they want to "control" Prince, they know what's best for him....they say their fans or fams and they dig his music, but really, they are envious of him.

cool, 2 me it reminds me of the eminem song stan, these fans are so invested emotionally in an artist, that eventually they feel they should be able to dictate that artists life. i honestly think some Prince fans are worse than regualr haters, its almost like an ex-wife who is obsessed with u. i just hope what happened to John Lennon or Selena doesnt happen to P, i mean, i am new here and i came here to share in the Prince love but this is not what i expected. i came here as a cocoon from the haters out there of P and found they all live here.
