Did anyone notice what he is wearing on page 8 ?

WTF ? headlp

It's the same outfit he was wearing in the July 2010 edition of Ebony. Actually most of the outfits Prince is seen wearing in the Ebony article are "promo" images for Prince during his recent line of interviews.

what he wants is X amount of dollars up-front no matter how many copies he does or does not sell, rather making the music available to generate profit on its own merits. that shows quite a bit of insecurity on his part. financial and artistic. and that's such an outmoded way of doing business, it's the old record industry system that he railed against for so many years. i guess that model isn't so bad if you're willing to take a massive check. and that's exactly why record companies own master recordings. they pay for them. with those massive advances and signing bonuses up front.

he's talking out of both sides of his mouth. but he always has.

Exactly, get paid loads for an absolute turd of an album instead of relying on a quality product to sell itself.

Lotusflower was not a turd project and with record sales being at an all time low for all artist what Prince is doing is actually pretty smart. I think he would have no chance in hell of getting a deal with any company so rather than not have a manner to distrubute the music at all he is going the newspaper route.

It would be great if he were in an enviroment where quality product was selling but that is not what is happening.

Why is it so hard for you to understand that MTV is not going to play any music for any artist that is not on a major label. Prince is not going to be seen on MTV as long as he is an independent artist.

He is obvisouly not down with providing free downloads or wasting money setting up a site that very few people are going to pay for therefore, he is distrubuting a CD in the countries he is performing in.

Are you getting the picture now?

I agree that in this interview, he expressed himself moreso than he did in the Ebony magazine article, and revealed more regarding his feelings about his music.

If the album is any reflection on some of this interview it should be a good album, can't wait.

Don't you think he means it is over in a financial way. Nobody wants to pay for music so he cannot make money on a website. I really think that is the reason the site was taken down he just did not get enought people to join to make a profit.

I am not saying that the content he put up was worth the $77.00 but he may be right the internet for distrubuting music for payment is done.

Yes, it clearly sounds like he is saying the "internet is over" for him as far as creating a another website, since the LF website was not as successful as he hoped it would be. The good thing is, he's finding other ways to sell his music. Can't be mad at him for that, that's for sure.

A couple of points of interest for me in this interview:

1. 'The internet is dead' - Laughable. I'd suggest it's Prince's online business model that is out of date. Subscription models are stone-age and Prince's track record is criminal.

2. '3 albums ahead' - B.S. The guy still doesn't understand quality over quantity does he?

3. 'He's a better musician now' - So what. If the songs aren't up to scratch it doesn't matter how great you perform them. A great song could be just vox and a couple of tin cans, you don't need to be a virtuoso to make great music.

Its very interesting that some fans always seem to be "oppositional" to Prince. They must parse his every word and tell us all how wrong, crazy, delusional, and untruthful he is. He could be all those things but I don't understand the desire some have to harp on them. Like somehow to point those things out shows everyone else how much smarter and wiser they are than Prince.

As far as your points:

1) Since u don't have a real insight into what actually happened for Prince with websites, what his expectations were u really aren't in a position to say he shouldn't be down on the internet.

2) If u paid attention he said he was compelled to get the music out of his head. He is probably OCD when it comes to music. He has always been creating music at a pace beyond what he has made currently available. That's nothing new. Musicians create music. Whether u like it or not is really your problem.

3) So what? What's wrong with Prince being satisfied with his life and art? What's wrong with feeling good about mastering an instrument?

Your problem is u just don't like the music. That's ok, but really u are projecting that problem onto to prince and blaming him for not satisfying U. He can't make u like it.

I'm kind of glad he's using newspapers again. He's neither smart enough nor principled enough to know how to run a website.

Thankfully, I'll just be using the Graveyard Formerly Known as the Internet to get my hands on this music anyway.

No you cannot see the picture from his end because apparently you think money grows on trees and that P should continue to throw money out the window on a site that not very many people actually paid any money to join.

While MTV and the internet are the best modern methods for distributing and promoting music it simply does not work for an independent artist something you obviously do not understand because you keep expecting P to pop up on MTV

Wow your smart, that's why you download music made by a man(prince) who has no so-called principles and is stupid?

Not sure what your point is but Prince is smart, talented and from what i see principled, because you spend all your spare time talking about him online and going to his "failed" websites really counts for nothing....

Bull...shit!! The only thing nobody wants to pay for is...crap! Be it crap music and/or crap websites!

Had Lotusflow3r.com been a good or even fairly decent website in regards to CONTENT, people would have happily plucked down the $77.00 to join, myself included. It didn't make the profit that he wanted because it seriously LACKED in content...plain and simple.

The only one the internet may be over for is Prince and that's no one's fault but his own because he just simply refuses to utilize the power of it properly!

Perfect example of his naivete when it comes to the power of the internet...

There is no way in fucking hell, I would pay $77.00 to join a website that he owned, to just download whatever songs his newest CD has to offer.

However, I'd do it in a heartbeat to see live streaming video of the shows where he will be...hopefully performing those new songs...(wave Hey Bart!)...this summer in Europe! Which are just waaaay out of my budget for me to go and see in person!

I'm certain that I'm not alone in that. However, Prince will settle for only making money off of the people that can get to the venue, instead of utilizing the power of the internet for what it does to include and get paid from the other hundreds of thousands of millions...of his fans all around the world.

That's a damn shame but it is what it is because that's the way he wants it to be! shrug

Well I think you are wrong. People have to fork up the $77.00 first to find out what the content over the year membership will be. I think very few people bothered to join because they did not want to pay the money for the following reasons.

1). We are in a bad economy and he just picked a bad time to start this venture.

2) Loads of people will tell you straight out they are not going to pay for music.

3) P did not have the proper people in place to forecast how many members he would need to make a profit and what sort of content his fans will buy. It appears he did no research before throwing the site up therefore, making the project doomed from the start.

If he is not willing to hire competent business people to develop a business plan than for him the internet is dead.

Just like in baseball where they say "That's just Manny being Manny" (referring to the Dodgers Manny Ramirez eccentric ways) this is just Prince being Prince. He even admitted in the interview that his views now could change down the road so I do not take "everything" he utters to heart. There is too much going on in his head to ever come off sounding what "we" term as normal but he is quite entertaining. As for me I will just go watch him sing "When I Lay My Hands On You" at Montreaux and I'm good for the day.

Also good interview !

But let's not forget, Prince has always had a great sense of humour, he's always takes the piss (micky) out of people who interview him, he like's to joke around...alot

People on this website think they are the only one's who joke around at Prince expense, posting funny jpegs etc...

Alot of the stories about him he makes up.... for fun... lol

Oh, for pete's sake. He ripped his fans off, pure and simple. He already had a history of doing that, which is why some people held off joining. When his insatiable greed determined he didn't get enough money from the site, he abandoned it.

--------

Yes he planned to have the website fail so he could obtain the great sum of $77.00 from the few hundred who joined. Dude are you on crack? P thinks if you" build they will come"

kind of like the last minute notices for after shows and concerts well in a bad economy, with piss poor planning, a web team that could not stop people from hacking in, and no idea of what the profit would be for this project it was doomed to fail but you keep thanking that P is on some vast conspiracy to rip off his fans (LOL) He just fucked this up and that is all it is really about.
