So you think get a newspaper in Germany to release it for the Berlin gig?

I think he will find a way to release all over Europe, at least in the countries he is playing.

Let's get this straight.

In 2010, MTV and now the Internet are both dead. But he's releasing CD's via newspaper? falloff

with newspapaers you can do a lot of cooperations. maybe some shearing of the advertising money and so on. I mean when there is a newspaper just for talking releasing 50.000pcs per day that means 50.000 people can get the cd big advertising for prince...big advertising - campaign for the newspaper...and so on....net it will be at the end of the day some easy money for prince...not that costs for the cd and so on....i think you can earn more money that way than in the tradionell specially because prince would not sell so many albums any more in shops in europe......i dont now...

the newspaper industry is crumbling as we speak. I'm sure it benefits Prince, because newspapers are extremely desperate to sell copies, even if it's just for one day. But this "the Internet is over, I'm going to release my albums through newspapers" business is just completely ridiculous, and quite possibly the most backward statement he's made in a decade-plus of backward statements. I can guarantee you more people are going to get this album on the Internet than they are via a newspaper. And most people who do buy the newspaper to get a physical copy of the disc, are going to use the Internet to do it.

He says he's 3 albums ahead. If he wanted to do something really revolutionary with this been-there, done-that distribution via the decaying newspaper industry, he could release 3 (or would it be 4?) different albums in different countries or regions he's playing in.

But frankly, I wish he'd just take the best material from the 3 albums and put it out as one. In a store. All the stores. In every country. For a Prince release, THAT would be quite revolutionary.

i'm just excited that there will indeed be a new album, and so soon. just a little over 2 weeks.

he must have kept a pretty tight lid on it since only 1 orger, iirc, posted the title "20TEN" some

weeks ago. but no further info has surfaced yet, right? or have i missed a thread on that?

anyway, it's nice to have a new album on the way and have it in your hands so soon instead

of hearing about it and having to wait another 5 months before it is released.

the lyrics "i love everybody and everybody loves me" have me slightly worried tho lol razz

reading the interview felt like watching a movie. the part where his girlfriend shows her teeth gave me chills, like a vampire movie, where the creepiness begins with a flashy smile, and slow luring voice. his opinions on the internet are just that, opinions. interesting how the interviewer said 'a different Prince' appeared, at least he's astute enough to recognize when Prince changes his personalities, some call it shape-shifting. overall the interview makes me feel sorry for him. but at least he can party in some big cold rooms where the lights dont work, with a Bible, as a Jehovah's Witness, and a girlfriend, without a chaperone. he flashes Jehovah like a fashion statement. at least the things he said about music made some sense, sort of, but it all just feels so, insincere. i hope he doesnt end up teetering up and down his corridors in his old age hallucinating about all the good times, waving at an imaginary crowd, rehearsing his own special version of billie jean, to himself.

this too shall pass

you want too much man lol i think it's cool he's releasing it for free, once again. that's nice

enough of the man imo. sure he's likely to pocket a nice paycheck from the papers just for

giving them the album, which will help sell copies. but for us, the album is free.

i don't really see anything wrong with distributing it through a newspaper either. they do sell

in an awful lot of places and are accessible to everyone with a few dollars in their pocket. it's

just a vehicle he's using right now, i don't think he considers newspapers the future of music

distribution.

but i do agree with you that his statement about the internet is way lame. how can he say

that without blinking his eyes? lol. that's so far from the mark it's not even funny. i can't help

but feel this is a bit of a childish reaction to the failure of lotusflower and the minimal number

of members who signed up for it.

same thing with Itunes. why would he need an advance? all they do is put his music on their

site and sell it to people, so if they work out a way to split the profit, why would he need some

sort of advance? weird logic right there. i'm sure it would be in his own best interest to have

his post warners material available on Itunes.

If the album is any reflection on some of this interview it should be a good album, can't wait.

l

Don't you think he means it is over in a financial way. Nobody wants to pay for music so he cannot make money on a website. I really think that is the reason the site was taken down he just did not get enought people to join to make a profit.

I am not saying that the content he put up was worth the $77.00 but he may be right the internet for distrubuting music for payment is done.

He has said that what ITUNES offers is not enough. It is obvious P has some amount of money he wants to receive upfront and maybe he gets what he wants from the newspapers.

yeah, i know but that's weird logic, imo. fcuz he wants a check from the newspapers since he's

giving them his album and they will make a lot of extra $ from all those papers sold.

but if he puts his new album on Itunes, since he doesn't have his own website anymore, it isn't

unfair of them to say they won't pay him an advance. an advance on what? he's getting his %

off every unit sold/downloaded and they get a cut for hosting/distribution.

but i don't know enough about Itunes and such so i could be completely wrong. i just still find

it a shame that he hasn't set up a site in all these years where he offers everything he put out

either on cd or through the net since his split from warners. it would be great if people could go

to a single place and find everything he's done.

He has said that what ITUNES offers is not enough. It is obvious P has some amount of money he wants to receive upfront and maybe he gets what he wants from the newspapers.

what he wants is X amount of dollars up-front no matter how many copies he does or does not sell, rather making the music available to generate profit on its own merits. that shows quite a bit of insecurity on his part. financial and artistic. and that's such an outmoded way of doing business, it's the old record industry system that he railed against for so many years. i guess that model isn't so bad if you're willing to take a massive check. and that's exactly why record companies own master recordings. they pay for them. with those massive advances and signing bonuses up front.

he's talking out of both sides of his mouth. but he always has.

A couple of points of interest for me in this interview:

1. 'The internet is dead' - Laughable. I'd suggest it's Prince's online business model that is out of date. Subscription models are stone-age and Prince's track record is criminal.

2. '3 albums ahead' - B.S. The guy still doesn't understand quality over quantity does he?

3. 'He's a better musician now' - So what. If the songs aren't up to scratch it doesn't matter how great you perform them. A great song could be just vox and a couple of tin cans, you don't need to be a virtuoso to make great music.

I'm really not asking too much. I'm glad we're getting a new album. And so soon. It's his Internet comment vs. his chosen distribution methods over the years that are completely out of sync. I was trying to help him make sense. That's all lol
