Why so many so-called Prince fans care he's making money as an indie artist, i don't know....

The more i read your threads the more i see you have no idea what Prince is doing and why he is doing it, you need to get over the fact that you have written him off long ago and he's still doing really well without your help! I'm not mad at him. If an ad agency or whoever wants to use his music, then pay up! It's also a good way to discourage them from using his music for garbage productions. I guess the days of the personalized jingle are gone.. [Edited 6/24/10 11:14am] Check out my tribute to Prince

Maybe he priced his music so high so that people would be liess inclined to use his music to sell deodorant and tv dinners. Not every artist is out to see their catalog turned into jingles and overly repetitive loops for car ads. This has absolutely nothing to do with his current or past output for that matter either. He obviously isn't as greedy as you make him out to be or he'd have milked this particular market dry by now. Frankly I hope I never hear Prince's music used to market anyhting other than Prince. I cringe at the thought of Dell using 'Computer Blue' to market blue colored laptops or such nonsense.
When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

That does make sense, but ultimately he could still turn down the offers even if he was priced accordingly.

That's a real shame...I would have loved to hear a song by a 52 year old man to a 2 year old telling her how everybody wanted to fuck her mother at one time and asking said child to persuade her mother to commit adultery....seems like perfect corporate msterial

Kinda reminds you of that "Let me Upgrade You" cable commercial song that Beyonce was singing and dancing in. Someone I know looked at that commercial and said "Diana Ross" would never sell herself so short to a a Cable Network and you would never see "Diana" dancing and singing every 10 minutes to Lemme Upgrade You at every commercial break.
It does somewhat cheapen the work of the artists, or at the very least it gets our ears too familiar with their work which can lead to a depreciation of their work. Although I'm your biggest fan...I'm also your biggest critic. Can you deal with that?

But Beyonce would never attack airports staff or scream DON'T YOU KNOW WHO I AM..plus Beyonce would probably have scored that goal in the opening ceremony [Edited 6/24/10 11:58am]

Oh I get it now. You all are mad that he doesn't sell out the way YOU want him to. I gotcha.

Nope, Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

That's an extremely black or white view of things. Some artists promote things they respect or believe in and then choose not to back stuff they don't. The selling out/greed argument lacks merit because it's Prince's choice to do whatever with his music and to charge whatever for it. Not ?uestloves choice and definitely not his fans choice. Princ ehas to live with and make peace with his own conscience at the end of the day, we don't. Exactly what is your agenda Bart?

There are 3 versions to every story. Your side, my side, and the truth.
Bart is not 100% right or wrong he just gives his opinion. Agree or disagree . I will fight with Bart but I would much rather hear his opinion than some other posters that are on this site.

Bart's opinion does not equal truth.

I think you missed my point, which is that combining assumptions and opinions about things you dont know doesn't lead to anything but your own reinforcing of your own assumptions and opinions... And if you weren't consistently babbling about the same thing every time you posted, MAYBE people might take an interest and care about your assumptions and opinions, but really, people get tired of the monotony... Change it one more time..

You still haven't said anything about the Beatles, Springsteen and the like charging the same rates....Until you do that brother Bart, shut the fuck up....
We all know Prince has not always played nice...But this post here just shows you are a deranged STAN...

But facts are facts. You call up WB and say "I want to use Prince's 'When Doves Cry' and Motley Crue's 'Dr. Feelgood' in a TV show - how much?" And when they quote you a ridiculously high price for Prince, and the average price for the Crue song, remember this moment.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I wonder how much he got paid for his songs being on Dancing With the Stars...?
I don't care about the money. I am happy when I hear one of his songs pop up anytime, anyplace.
(Well - that depends on the song...you couldn't pay me to listen to Purple and Gold again.)
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
The Crue is hardly on Prince's level with their music so why the hell should it be priced the same?

I've also heard Uve Got The Look in advertd too

Why do I even try with the FAMs. You're all a bunch of loons.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Well, if you think Motley Crue created anything that compares to Prince's best work, then who's the loon? They have a few decent drunk-party tunes and that's about it, but I sure as hell wouldn't consider it artistic or thoughtful.

the suggestion being made is that Prince is being greedy to charge a high price. that's my understanding of the OP's main point.
i suggested Prince knows his own worth and despite his past actions, he's not willing to whore himself out to just anybody.
to my thinking, if Prince were driven solely by greed, he'd whore himself out to anybody just for the money.
clearly, he's not doing so, but his high publishing prices may also be an ego statement, where the price represents his transparent inflated opinion of himself.
some might argue his opinion of himself as an artist is well and truly justified. this too shall pass
