Prince recorded the song by himself on April 17, 1983 at Sunset Sound in Los Angeles, after the 1999 Tour. The session lasted from April 14-22.

Oddly, even though Prince was working on material to be used by The Time, it was April 18 that Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis were in Los Angeles at Larrabee Sound with The SOS Band. They were called to Sunset Sound, and told they were let go from the group.

The Revolution never recorded the song. The Time only lent their voice(s) to the song, and even Prince's voice of the waiter was retained for The Time's version.

So what's the question?

Keep up: Except Morris singing, it's the same track.

Wasn't Wendy and Lisa apart of that session, doing background vocals or something (Wendy playing guitar)?

I do like the Jamie Starr*/Prince version. The Time's version is cool also. I can't really say bcuz they both were cool.

Thanks Ernest, I kinda sorta knew that (lol) but I seem to jam P's version more. It seems so much more funkier, something's different (outside of P's raspy voice that I love so much).
