re: what dave said about "For You" live.
A completely dark stage, with a decent-sized vocal effects pedal for the mic. I think it could be done. But defintely hit the sustain on the last note, and then bring the lights up and kick into the opening of 'rebirth.'

Of course it's possible to be done, but certainly not Prince-like. I know that this is just a dream set list and all that, but this is way too surreal for Prince. He never gives his all to exact singing, he rather "jams" with his voice, and lately the last thing he would use on-stage would be a vocal effect.
Anyway - curious, how would you still be able to perform For You live with an effect pedal? How would you swith between the dimished dominant chords and the major 7 chords so quickly? It's not possible to be done live on-stage. | |

i am surprised prince never took a page from phish and put on a 3 day festival playing all different songs .. if phish can do it with their mostly lame songs with about 20 good ones prince can certainly do it | |

You're absolutely right. There's no way to do "For You" exactly live on stage, but I could imagine him assigning the more intricate vocal backups to guitar and synth (maybe with both Dr. Fink and Lisa around, just to bring the synth a-game). It just seems like such a dynamite symbolic gesture, that really, any way he decided to update the song for however he could best perform it would be awesome.
It's also such a weird and enveloping sound, and I'd love to see what he could do with it. Heck, even if he stripped it down to just one voice, with no backups. It'd still blow my mind.
I'd also love to see him take a track and strip it down to just voice and LM-1. Rock the Linn live and see what he can do.
