Old funky sound Y'all whining about how Prince is old. Some of y'all may have heard of the "headhunters." I heard about 'em just last night. My point, the lead singer sounds old to me.
Clint got old.
Miles got old.
That don't mean you can't stay funky!! Am I right??

I don't think too many of us complain about Prince being old in concert.
It's the studio output that gets questioned. She has robes and she has monkeys, lazy diamond studded flunkies....

George Clinton!
No one gives a shit about Prince in concert man. No one!!
This is about P the artist, the records. Come one y'all. Don't be naive.
Prince ABSOLUTELY KNOWS how to make music that is actually on par or better than "the headhunters." The thing is, he's got his big fucken fat ego stuck up his fucking ass and is making this bullshit music.
Prince is laughable right now in the sense that we know what he can do.
Let me break it down. The motherfucker has an elite studio. The genius gets up every day with personal chefs offering him breakfest and tailors dressing him, slaves. SLAVES.
So the ex-slave heads to the studio and comes up with nothing for years... What happened man? What THE FUCK HAPPENED?
Get with the funk or get lost.

There was a thread recently debating if Prince was not only funky, but if he was a major contributor to the genre. And the answer is of course, he wasn't just a major contributor to the genre he redefined it and turned it purple. Whether some people like it or not, he owns a big part of it. Do a search on funk and his name will always appear at the top next to JB and GC BUT, to say Prince at his peak was all about funk is also very demeaning to his legacy because what he did to funk he also did to pop, rock and R&B, his greatness was not so simple or one dimensional.
To me, the reason Prince can be placed above Elvis, George Clinton, MJ, U2 and just about every other major icon is the fact that he was able to surpass whatever genre's limitations and turn it something he owned. I think the Beatles were the only ones that also accomplish this.
Prince was not "just" funk he was a hell of a lot more than that and its a shame when people want to peg him into this tiny little corner and suffocate the man.

I think owning his own studio that he can sleep over at is the problem. Too much time and too many toys to fiddle with and over-work what might be a good idea. And too much opportunity to put every single half-baked idea on tape and call it a "song" when those ideas would probably be better served by marinating and mixing in his head a little before he got a chance to commit them to tape. And it keeps his art and creative process hermetically sealed, so that he has a very narrow source of sounds and influences subliminally or overtly making their way into his music.
