Guitar techies might find this interesting.. [img:$uid]http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f335/TheFluteMeister/crybabycustom.jpg[/img:$uid]
I was curious about Prince's Cry-Baby wah pedal, because I have never been able to locate another one thatlooks (or sounds) like it (referring the one pictured attached to his pedal board.)
So I took the initiative to email Dunlop Inc. to see if they'd dish out any info on it.. turns out that my suspicions were correct: it's one-of-a-kind.
Email:
Dear Sean,
Thank you for your email with regard to the Crybaby Custom Pedal. Our Engineer did make Custom Crybaby Pedals for the musician named Prince; these pedals were created to the artist’s specifications and they were not available for sale. Our Engineering department usually uses the custom name plate for effects that are not units that are available for resale.
We hope that this information is of some assistance. If we can be of any other assistance to you, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
Best Regards, Julie Dunlop Manufacturing, Inc.
Why in the world wouldn't they replicate it and release a signature line?
I'd buy two.

I think Dunlop would have to get Prince's permission for them sell a pedal based on the one they custom made for him.
They DO sell custom pedals from other guitarists, though: http://www.jimdunlop.com/...amp;cat=15
I don't think Prince has ever endorsed any brand of instruments or other music-related gear before. He uses lots of Boss guitar pedals and sometimes plays customized Fender Strats and he's been playing Hohner Telecasters for years, but doesn't endorse any

Thanks for posting this info. Very interesting. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

is that photo from one of the first nights at the indigo2 aftershows? it looks like it was taken from the spot i was usually at. he only used that pedalboard setup for the first few aftershows and used his bigger main board (the curved one) for the rest of the shows. the pictured board seems to be his second board for aftershows, which is much smaller, with the large curved one for main shows. perhaps so it's easier to setup the aftershow before the main show is over
perhaps you could ask them if it would be possible to buy a custom made pedal to the same spec and ask what is different to the normal spec, and how much it would cost?

Thank you for your e-mail.

We need to petition Dunlop inc. to pursue this, methinks.
