I got this set a while ago and it is AWESOME! If this had been released as an album things would have exploded.

The Fast version of Come is great, as is the guitar heavier version of Endorphinmachine. The blend up of NOW into facedown is just great.

The only thing I would have done differently is used the original Version of Pussy Control. Other than that this set is THE SHIT! Probably the best fan release ever produced.

08. npg operator (0:17)

09. THE MOST BEAUTIFUL GIRL IN THE WORLD (6:20) – mix of ‘The Gold Experience’ album version and the unreleased ‘Mustang 96 Remix’ (The Work), now also includes saxophone parts taken from the 'Sax Mix/Brian's Mix' and Mayte's spanish version: 'Quieres Ser El Mas Bello De Este Mundo'.

10. THE POPE (4:33) – mix created using the album version from ‘The Hits 2’, the promo only 12" remix, a drum loop from ‘Acknowledge Me’ (barely noticable) and a burst of ‘D.M.S.R.’ from the ‘1999’ album.

11. RIPOPGODAZIPPA (4:37) – taken from ‘Crystal Ball’.

12. npg operator (0:06)

This HAS BEEN released as an audio album.

In fact Purplehassan's video versions are just an homage to this astounding audio version.

There were several w.i.p. versions being Version 4.0 considered the definitive one.

Especially the editing, is the main feature of this treasure trove.

"The Dawn" IS a 3 CD audio collection, with the contents listed in thedance's post.

The first post showing this new DVD set is a bit misleading as it uses the cover image from the CD

set. Unless of course, the makers of the DVD have used the same image (in which case they

deserve a slap for ripping off the original artwork).

I must admit, this DVD set is new to me, and is a completely different thing put together by

someone else much later on (obviously inspired by The Dawn audio collection's running order).

It sounds like a good collection of videos and live performances from that time (but I haven't seen

it myself so can't comment on quality etc.) Though it might have been better if they'd called it

something slightly different, like "The Dawn Video Experience" to avoid confusion.

However, the original "The Dawn" 3CD set is all about the versions, mixing, segueing and

sequencing. And putting the songs from that period into a overall context in keeping with

Prince's original ideas at the time.

There were a few different versions made over time, but the final "finished" one is the one listed

in thedance's post. Each disc should clock in at exactly 77 mins and 7 seconds.

I need to read more carefully before I post! I didn't notice that the list I posted was for a DVD collection?!! I thought I was posting a CD compilation list--I didn't know a DVD set existed! If so, I'll have to check it out, unless the source was mistaken! Sorry for the error! I have the 3.3 CD configuration that Borisfishpaw is referring to. (That's what I get for posting with beer !) boxed My bad! An excellent CD set!

I was thrown off by that DVD myself. I had assumed that the OP was asking about the stellar CD set. Great collection and well thought out. Whoever put it together is aces in my book.

I'm really sorry for the confusion caused by my careless post. I thought I was posting the CD list. The above Dawn DVD list was apparently created by a fan on a whim using video clips to fit the audio compilation. I'll try to read more carefully before I post... These are two awesome sets and should be in every collection...but If I was to pick one of these three disc sets, then I'll have to go with the CD set...by a country mile.

Forget your love for The Gold Experience or Come this is how the set should have looked...This is the three disc set that Emancipation should have been.

In fact all the official releases pal biggrin e in comparison to this, easily the best Prince Album that never was.

I just got the audio set today and have listened to it all, and let me tell ya, it's THE SHIT. Seriously, this has become one of my top 5 P albums. If you ain't got it, you're missing out. The sound quality is as good as an official studio release, and the overall set is tops. This one will be in heavy rotation for a while.

Love this bootleg. I think it's a better home for a lot of this material than the albums it actually ended up on. The sequencing is really great and has made me appreciate some songs that I never really noticed or even flat out disliked before.

On top of that, it's a really incredible summer album. Driving around on a hot sunny day with this playing just feels damn good.

I downloaded this not too long ago and i love it, excellent release.

The one annoying thing is Winamp has created some very small gaps in between some (not all) of the tracks, and i cannot get rid of them, its kind of annoying.

I know this is the fault of my media player and not the actual release but it is bugging me.

Regarding the cd version does anyone know how many different versions there were and what the differences were between them?

The final version is 4.1. The major differences were pointed out above by TheDance.

If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

If memory serves me the first version was only 70 minutes per disc and featured only 18 tracks per disc and many songs were edited. So I guess that means that the only differences are one extra song per disc and fuller/extended songs bringing each disc up to 77 minutes. Does that sound correct?

Yes. As far as I'm aware only 2 versions got as far as circulating among fans.

The first version was missing We March, Dark and Zannalee, and clocked in at 70 mins per disc.

A few of the tracks on the early version were shorter edits too.

^ That explains why I have only the 2 versions of The Dawn.
