Band lineup on 'The War'
I have always enjoyed this jam, but does anyone know who played on this recording? I have read that Larry Graham played bass, but i do not know if this is true or not, and i cannot seem to find anymore information on it. Any idea's?

Given the time frame, I would think it was some verison of the NPG circa 1998. That would probably include Kirk on drums, Rhonda on bass, Mike Scott on guitar, Morris on keyboards, possibly Kat on guitar, although I think she was gone by that point. Good question though.
Also, on that same night he played "One Of Us", "You're Still The One" (Shania Twain cover), and "The Christ" (cringe).

Was that at Paisley Ernest? We need an updated 'The Vault' for questions like these.

From what you say ernest I think Kat Dyson was still there (isn't she on the War cassette/CD cover giving birth to the world or something?). Would she have done co-lead vocals on Still The One that night too? Just somewhere in the middle,
Not too good and not too bad.

That was Marva King, in both instances.

I found this in P. Nilsen's 'The Vault.'
20th June (am) 1998. Prince and the NPG play an early morning show at Paisley Park dubbed 'The One,' which was announced on the Love 4 One Another website. The gig began at 3.15am with a screening of The One video. After the video Prince performed a string of 'one' songs. Then closed the set with The Christ. After a short break, the band returned chanting 'the revolution will be colourised.' The chanting continued for a while before the band broke into what we now know as 'The War.' The jam lasted 45 minutes, the band then left the stage with only Kirk Johnson remaining, while he encouraged the audience to continue chanting. The jam was then edited down to 26 minutes and released in July.
So we know that Kirk was present that night but who else? The vault does not mention anyone else. And yes, i should have checked properly before posting this thread.

Good bit of information there. I sort of knew some of those facts.
The telling part though is that it was recorded on 20JUN98. It'd be quite easy to narrow down who was in the band at that time. NewPowerSoul was released June 30, so it'd be a very safe bet that whoever is on that album, played on "The War". That was his band at the time. He changed it up a bit after the NewPowerSoul touring, and he headed into the Rave Un2 era (which had folks like Kip Blackshire, and Graham on bass).
You can also reference this page: http://en.wikipedia.org/w...Generation
We see that the NPG consisted of: Rev. Mike Scott was on rhythm guitar (Kat left in 1997) Rhonda on bass (took her break in 1999) Morris Hayes - Organ (and keys) Kirk Johnson - drums Marva King - vocals Tony Morris - horns (never heard of him)
It's weird to me that the song was credited to New Power Generation, but when folks talk about NPG projects like Goldnigga, Exodus, NewPowerSoul, etc, it's often overlooked. Some of the NPGMC releases were NPG songs too.

Some old school orgers, for example Lovemachine, were there during the performance. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"
