P & LG - Why have they not released so much more music 2gether? Whatever your thoughts about LG's influence on P you cannot doubt that he is a total bass ledgend. Considering their obvious affection for other and the vast amounts of time they spend jammin' can you believe that only 1 cd has been relesed with P on it. Isn't it time that they released a totally cool funk CD?, anyone else agree or would you prefer the connection to be just spiritual?.

I'd buy it if one does drop. LG's basswork is jaw dropping and I believe P & LG could throw down a good album with Morris Hayes backing up on the keys with a little JB on drums ... Peace ... & Stay Funky ...

musically it has potential but most likely it would turn into a sermon, prob worse than the TRC message. It might sound great but if there`s any singing u can bet that JW bs will all over it.

Every time Prince releases a song and preaches in it, consider it a Larry Graham collaboration.
On Monday, Larry Graham said that he and Prince had recorded a lot of music together, and that he (LG) has a new album put together, but no release date just yet. Now, whether that's stuff he recorded at the Park or not, I don't know. I assume it is, from the way he talked.

Well that would make perfect sense... recording a Sly Stone song that Larry Graham did not play on and had nothing to do with.... Although with the endless live covers of the same Sly Stone songs that Larry seems to think he wrote nothing would suprise me about those two jokers together. [Edited 6/17/10 8:42am]

interesting, thnaks for that.

one thing that I will say is that they have been doing the same cover tracks [dressed in white!] for 12 years now so it would be great to hear some new live tracks on the mini-euro tour.

Doesn't larry have beef with some of the credits on songs attributed to just Sly? I can see him and Prnce looking down on Sly's state of mind due to drugs the past few decades too.

I should note that I heard that from Graham on Joe Kelley's The Upper Room on WVOF, out of Fairfield, CT. Joe has done that show for eons it seems, and knows a lot of Minneapolis people, and has a great reputation in the radio world. It's college radio and he's not under a corporate umbrella, so he really goes out for those interviews and music.
Graham called into Joe's show Monday, live from NY, as he was preparing to go on Letterman's show the next night. He was later on BB King's (Wednesday night?)
Joe posts about upcoming shows in the Prince: M&M forum regularly. He's a great guy. For those people from the alt.music.prince days - Joe met his wife through AMP!

Why? Because LG can't play anything beyond that OLD stuff from the 1970's or material with basslines CLOSE 2 that 70's material.

It could be Larry Graham because of his duties and responsiblities as an elder in the Jehovahs Witness faith does not allow him to tour that much thus not releasing an album in 11 years. Plus as much as Prince admires LG, Prince is still a control freak and might feel uncomfortable telling Larry what to play or teaching him parts for Prince's music. Remember what Alan Leeds said about what Prince's definition of a producer is? Thus the reluctancy to collaboratate with Miles Davis, Lenny Kravitz and even his spiritual mentor. 3121 #1 THIS YEAR

I'd put money on if Larry Graham does the Europe dates he'll be playing the same old Sly Stone covers.

I don't mean to be rude, but your post is totally ridiculous. YOU aren't. Your post is, though.
Frist: Larry doesn't have some "duty and responsibility" to the JW's. Where did you hear that he's an elder and has some high position in the church? MJ was a JW, and it didn't stop him from doing what he wanted. How is Graham different. Do you really think his church is dictating what he can do to make a living???? REALLY? Don't overthink it. It's silly.
LG can release whatever he wants WHEN he wants. Prince doesn't control that, nor does the church. LG can put together any album, and get it distrbuted just like Prince, or a ton of other independent artists, have done. Ani Defranco has been putting out her own shit on her own for ages, and never let her lesbianism tell her how to do it. (See how silly that sounded? Get it?)

How are they covers if he was there when they were written, and he performed on them, and possibly co-wrote them? Is St. Paul doing Family covers? Is Sheila E. doing a cover when she performs "Erotic City"? When The Revolution reunited in 2003 and played "Raspberry Beret" or "America", were they doing covers? Of course not.
If anyone supported their career with Sly (and other's) covers, it was Prince in the mid 90's when he stopped playing his own material.
Also, Larry Graham has plenty of his own material under GCS, and as a solo artist in the late 70's and early 80's, to support a show. OF COURSE he's going to play Sly song. His farkin' thumb and his bass was a huge component in defining Sly's sound (and of course defined GCS' sound).
What new material would you like him to play? His last album was 1999, eleven years ago. By most standards, those are "old" songs now.
In the end, if folks don't wanna hear those songs, don't go.

Because GCS2000 was so fucking atrocious, that Jehovah came down in 1999 and told them if they EVER dare do anything like that again, they'd be sipping flaming mai tais with the unspeakable one for the rest of eternity.

I'm watching a video on YouTube of Prince and LG at BB King's the other night in NYC. LORDY! Prince is lookin' fly, and they're playing "Thank You". Incredible.

Larry Graham maybe a brilliant bass player but we could do without his influence on prince at this moment of time. I would rather have sonny t on the bass because he was prince's biggest inlfluence, he too is a multi instrumentalist. Prince needs to express himself freely instead of being controlled.
Look at his other major influence sly stone funkadelic parliament miles davis they are/were all damn tooooooo freaky & that's the direction prince needs to go again.
unfortunately prince sees larry as a some kind of prophet.

I've read on several posts/interviews that Larry is an elder in the JW church. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

yes. indeed. imho they should create an album together consisting of only two songs, and various versions, samples and remixes of only these two songs. thank you for lettin' me be myself, and everyday people. after all, they been pavin' the way for such a work for some time now....

That is a good one...........

the question though is, 'is P actually being controlled'? - i really suspect he is using the teachings of JW'S and the guidance of LG to try something different i.e. a new approach; i find it hard to believe that P would let LG listen to a killer new P track and LG tells him to bin it!!.

Larry Graham and GCS albums have hardly any preaching on them. One, 'Mirror' from the 70's does, but mostly they are straight funk.
Prince 'preaches' more than Larry Graham. Musically and live, Larry is pretty much strictly about the funk.

The euro tour has been and gone. I saw the final date at the Koko in London, which was dynamite. The only other gigs I know of in Europe are his opening acts for Prince.
Larry did plenty of different songs on his tour with his choices. For example, 'Can You Handle it', 'Hair', 'Feel the Need', 'Entrow', 'I Can't Stand the Rain', 'Release Yourself', 'Dance to the Music, 'If You Want Me To Stay' ... .
But at Koko Larry performed for 2 hours and 20 minutes straight. As a warm-up act he'll have nowhere near that time.
Personally, I consider Larry 'too good' to be a back-up act, but I guess it is a larger gig for him.

Agreed. He can release what he likes when he likes.
There was a DVD and CD on the Euro-tour, and he has a new DVD of the Paris date upcoming.
