Guitar Freaks help about this question in A Million Daysvideo Prince is playing Gibson Les Paul guitar. So do you think it is a guitar Prince used on the recording of the song? It's such a rarity to see P rince play Gibson

It's more than likely, bands and artists often use different gear in the studio than live as they have more opportunities to refine their sound with endless possibilities..

It's hard to say. Prince has such a processed guitar signal, who could know?

Thanx on replay Threadbare yes ,but all guitars have trade mark sound. i can always recognise hohner for example i think Prince played Gibson Les Paul on My Love is Forever and I'm yours on his first album. Maybe on his second album also but not after that time,or maybe i'm wrong?

<---guitarist for decades. So, I know about guitars and tell-tale sounds. I also know there are Strats that can mimic Teles pretty convincingly. I also know a Strat with some humbuckers will get you into the Les Paul neighborhood pretty easily.
Then, when you have a guitar signal that's usually processed to a crazy degree (as Prince sadly has been doing for a long time), it's even harder to tell what the true nature of the original guitar. So, it could have been the gear he used.
It'd be a hoot if that was footage from the actual recording session. I didn't study the fingerings enough to gauge. But, that would be a hoot.

THREADBARE what do you mean when you say: guitar signal that's usually processed to a crazy degree? And what was the best guitar sound by Prince in your opinion ?

Prince runs his stuff through tons of pedals and rack gear. I haven't been impressed with his sound for a long, long time.
His best tone to me was his 1980s, cloud tone. You hear it best on ICNTTPOYM from the SOTT movie.

Yes Threadbare is right, as a guitarist myself with the exception of the Hohner it's hard to tell which guitar he used on A Million Days. But if I had to guess i'd say maybe one of his custom-made strats. His tone has always impressed except Purple Rain @ Super Bowl XLI being the only ever exception! His tone on ICNTTPOYM from the SOTT movie is some of the sickest shit i've ever witnessed, just raw guitar with some gain...maybe a little turbo-distortion:bow:
