I bet ACDC/ROLLING STONES/LED ZEPPLIN (however you spell it) ranked much higher. People give the list way to much credit, its just a group of people (if not one persons') opinion of what the 500 songs of all time are.

Put some rick james and prince in that "mug" lol

they need to rank prince much higher aswell as sly and the family stone

No such thing. This isn't academic, it's art, it's all subjective.. people who even give these lists any value aren't individuals, but rather sheep who follow..

Well it is based as a 'rock' magazine. Prince got respectable rankings for RS imo.

Ok, as long as you know its your opinion and not the "divine truth". The list is ok, John Lennon who I adore has ranked high, good, nirvana which rolling stones mag didn’t appreciate the album when it initially came out, ranked it high OK, but I think overall excluding the likes of the ones ive mentioned as well as others and the one and only legendary innovator that is Chuck Berry, Prince has more rock in his penis than the majority of that top 20 in my opinion. Only difference is he has to be dead before people like ROLLING STONES will put him there.

Black man has to do twice as much to be taken seriously in rock, is that what you saying..brotha ? lol

P.s this isn’t up for debate.

Just as I dont expcect Vibe to have ever had Led Zep in any of their rankings I don't expect Prince to get a number ten rank in anything. Not with the history base of writers that the RS magazine employs and employed. Having said that, it's not that I dont think Chuck Berry is the actual King etc etc but Im not expecting certain things from ..certain places. Where did you get the vibe in my post ot even go the "divine truth" route?

RS is a shitty and TERRIBLY dated magazine that still miss the 60s and the early-70s; it's one of the most questionable/disposable mainstream music magazines out there; it's speciality now is to rewrite reviews of modern classics of the 80s and 90s that received a negative RS review when they were originally released.,..pathetic

Let's just ignore this magazine, folks...

Hold up Prince does most genre and was a pioneer for rock expecially in the 80's, inspiring rock bands but he doesnt deserve to be ranked fairly in music magazines of the genres he does? He does r&b put him in and respect him in Vibe (not you in particular) he does rock real rock music put him in rolling stones, not that "negro" should be lucky hes in it at all mentality.

And you dont have to believe Chuck is king, but he did start rock and roll and if you would rather pick elvis by all means pick him.

And I never mentioned vibe, you did.

HOW did Sign o the Times get on there!! NO WAY that should be in the top 500!! COME ON!! Other than that I think Prince did great!! I question 1999 a little but I can go with it i guess. I dont think people should be complaing at all about him not being high enough or whatever. This is extremely good for Prince. Congrats P!!! I just disagree with Sign though

to be completely honest If we are talking about all time Prince should really only have 2 songs in the top 500 realistically. ALLTIME is a LONG time!!
