The 1 U Wanna C - Best Single that never was !

I know Planet Earth was not a favorite , but The 1 U Wanna C is the best single of the past 6 years (Prince resurgance) that never happened. The song is pure pop with a country twang thrown in. I think Prince could of pulled out his old Muppet Show Country gear and made this a crossover hit ala Darius Rucker. This song is genius and a prime example of Prince's skills to write a perfect pop song that could be played on the radio today. "I got a lotta money ..."

I believe it was a single somewhere in the world.

I work in country radio, have for 14 years now. There is no way this would have been played on country radio. I do love the song though.

Making love and music are the only things worth fighting for.

I think it's one of the lamest and shameful tracks Prince ever commited to tape.

I cringed in such a way when I first heard it that I wanted the (Planet) Earth to swallow me.

Shame, shame, shame.

^Honestly, I felt like I wanted to die when I heard THAT.

After Musicology and 3121, Planet Earth was for me the definitive artistic death for Prince.

I can't expect anything worth listening from him ever again. And I know I ain't gonna get it.

Funny how this song keeps deviding people. Some think it's the lamest song EVER, some consider it a masterpiece; I know very few Prince songs that do the same amongst fans (bar Arms Of Orion)

I quite like it, it's simple but it's very catchy (and a rip off of '' When You Were Mine'') like for instance MBGITW of Arms or Orion. ""every nickle in this club looking for a dime, nothing less , nothing more'' is quite clever I think

B+ song

I like this tune a lot, very catchy little nugget, great chorus, true pop.

The rest of the album is not too bad either, yes i know it is not an experimental funkfest, but i really do not understand the amount of dislike the album gets on this site.

The 1 U Wanna C would have made a great single.

There's a couple of songs I could 'bear', but definitely poor for Prince's standards.

Not the best single that never was, but a nice catchy song which could of been a single. I think a promo was made in France which sometimes indicates it was considered for release.

Having heard it live in 2007 along with some of the other Planet Earth songs i find i can enjoy a song more, with him not releasing singles and rarely playing new stuff makes it difficult to fully get into a song........it's a shame the way the music industry has gone

Ever since the Symbol album, there have been so many, as I like to call them, "songs that should have been a hit in some parallel universe." A universe that appreciates Prince and his music and rewards it with record sales, airplay, etc. The 1 U Wanna C is definitley one of those, imo. But that just isn't happening. I have given up hope for Prince to have a commercial breakthrough at this stage of the game.

If Symbol didn't produce at least six huge hits singles, then that says something about the music industry, public taste, and radio. They will be clamoring for Prince's music after he is gone, and maybe then all these songs that should have been a hit will be discovered and apreciated. He has one of the best if not the best and most impressive catalogues of any artist over the past 30 years.

Like most of the songs Prince released in this decade, i hear them a couple of times and forget about them. Same with this one. Maybe it's the arrangement, i just don't like it.

But it's ok, he made so many cool songs, i don't mind what he puts out now

It's a great song.

It sounds to me almost as if It could been recorded around 1985-86.

It's brilliant, love everything about it. Classic.

Yes, that's exactly what I've been saying for a long time. I love the Real Minneapolis Sound, But MPLSound the album is terrible and has nothing to do with the actual Minn Sound. And LotusFlopp3r is even worse. This isn't Prince at his best. It's Prince at his least listenable and most self indulgent.

We only like these albums because we are such big Prince fans. If this music belonged to any other musician, we would be laughing at how shitty it is. I never thought things would get SO bad that I would wish for another album like Graffiti Bridge or Rave, but either of those put Planet Earth and LotusFlow3r to shame.

I like Prince a lot and I think he still has the ability to crank out another 3121, but I'm sick of everybody brown nosing with the last two albums.

I'm not sure what Darius has to do with this song.

Darius changed his sound. There are real steel guitars in his songs. He has a real nice, smooth voice. His country music puts his Hootie music to shame. The whole album is full of "traditional" sounding country songs. He billed himself as country. None of that applies to Prince.

Making love and music are the only things worth fighting for.

I don't know about "best single that never was"...but I do like the song and PE. Yea I've said it before and I'll say it again. I like PE. My choice my preference. And I'm not gonna hate on people that like things I don't. Simple. You like it cool, you don't that's cool also. But don't down others that do like something just because you don't.That's just rude. Anyway....

Back on topic...I like the fact you can really hear Wendy and Lisa on this track. Maybe more so than any other on PE. Just MY take. cool

I absolutely love this track & usually hit repeat when its on. Its not much on lyrics but it is a really fun song to me. I`m not much of a country music fan but just that little bit of twang was fun & catchy sounding. I`m not too big on his `pop` sounding songs but something about this song just really grabs me.

I like Planet Earth better now than I did when it first came out. It was the first and last tracks that killed it for me then. But in retrospect, there are a lot of decent songs in between. And the line about being past his expiration date pretty much redeemed it for me, lyrically.

Man, LF is the most over-rated hunk of junk in Princes career (not the worst mind you, but for sure over rated).

If you get rid of the three instrumental tracks there are only 9 songs on the disc. 4Ever, Wall of Berlin, and Love Like Jazz are laughably bad. We're talking real turds here. So already the disc is a third crap. Boom is almost a song except it's like 4 songs together and it doesn't work and just ends up being ADhD and sort of cluttered. Crimson and Clover, a song that's been covered a shit load and P's version adds nothing except it sounds like he recorded the vocals in a swimming pool. $ could be good with a complete instrumental re work. Colonized Mind and Dreamer are the same unfocused political jargon Prince has been spouting about since 98'. Stick to one topic at a time to make a good political statement. Feel better = Funky instruments but all the religious references in the middle make it tough to Funk out to

I hope androgenine or whatever is more in the vein of 3121

love the song. should have been a hit. indicative of the wilderness radio is in to me. the wide disparity as it relates to who likes the song and who doesn't reflects the near impossible consensus on Prince material. Lotus has some great tracks and so does MPLSound. and whomever things SHOE from PE isn't a great ballad needs their ears cut off. LOL
