shouldve asked d'angelo, saadiq, kravitz, andre 3000 or maxwell to perform with him instead of chaka and patti. those 2 have nothing interesting to add to the performance. but i'm glad he'll perform this sunday [Edited 6/26/10 2:14am] |

Cool, those are the people that many here said he should perform with, especially Patti and Chaka, sknce they've been longtime friends, and I just can't see him having a tribute without them involved in it. The sistahs will be representing!
Nice to know Janelle Monae will be part of it, as well as Esperanza and Alicia--all the female artists he he seems to admire. This should be a nice performance. Great exposure for Janelle, especially since she's recently getting a lot of attention, and with Prince as a fan of hers and showing support at her recent performances, that's a good thing for her to be performing as part of his tribute on this show.

i don't think u understood what i meant. what i meant is that he shoudlve picked those i mentioned instead of chaka and patti. SO what if Prince hand-picked them himself? That dosen't mean he chose the best artists to perform with him. It just means he made a bad decision.. I doubt that a 66 year old Patti can bring anything interesting on stage and chaka well we've seen her perform on her own tribute & it was forgettable. Other performers wouldve brought much more attention to the performance. ANd im GLad he picked Janelle, i think thats the best choice he made |

No I understood exactly what you meant. I can read. Maybe you didn't understand what I said when I mentioned that Prince hand-picked them which is: he knows what he's doing and what is best for HIM, not your preference of what you think should be. Why would he pick artists he didn't think were best to perform with him? Your standpoint is completely subjective (and discriminatory might I add) because you are not Prince. Using a poor attitude about old age to justify what you think could be interesting? As if some younger generation isn't discriminating against Prince because of his age. 66 years old, 52 years old, 16, 5, fetus-- it doesn't matter. If you got it you got it and we will see tomorrow night just who has it. And for the record, at her age, Patti can still sing rings around some people half those years.
At least we can both agree on Janelle being a good choice..... Naw I don't serve ribs... |

I would not be surprised if Justin Timberlake, does a little part of the tribute, although many would disagree, because of his comment that he was bringing sexy back when his past album came out, and he did say that album was Prince influenced. I have seen Timberlake clown Prince at the podium when Prince won some award that he didnt show to accept - he stooped down at the mic as to mimic Prince's height and laughed like the punk he is. He isnt worthy to speak Prince's name in public - let alone participate in a trubute to his greatness. |

yes - but I am still distressed that I have to endure som much other black music to get to the Prince portion of teh show. I havent loved R&B/soul music since the 80s and I have never liked hip hop. That is why I thank God for Prince every day. |

BET Awards have a category for R&B adn Hip Hop - why no jazz category? That is the only original American music genre and it was created by blacks. It proceeded R&B and hip hop. This is why BET has never really succeeded in cultivating or even maintaining any real cultural value and history for African americans in my opinion. Neither has TV One. |

so if I say a 66 year Labelle isnt as interesting to watch perform than those i mentioned that makes me discriminatory? or that means i consider prince a liar? . Could they have given awards to Jazz musicians, in their preshows in the past? Like they do at the Grammys and other music/movie awards shows? I do remember BETJazz cable station, which they no longer have. They actually used to play a lot of Prince videos on that station, moreso than on their regular BET station. I remember in 2007 watching the "Fury" video, and other Prince videos, I never seen before on that station. |

Yes, you are discriminating and I stand by it. Because there would have been no issue with just saying you wouldn't think that Patti LaBelle herself would be interesting, but once again you say "a 66 year old Patti LaBelle". You brought age into the matter as means of not being vocally or theatrically up to par, as if there are no exceptions. It is dependent on that artist and what they choose to do with their body and health that makes the voice and technique, NOT AGE. Look at Whitney, clearly younger than Patti and how does she sound? Look at Tina Turner, clearly older than Patti and listen to her. And my argument was never about Chaka Khan or her vocals so you can just drop that scenario. I was strictly referring to Patti, the only one I can vouch for after having heared her vocals recently. So sure, make me out to be a dramatizer but you are clearly projecting your feelings onto an entire audience because of what YOU think and your opinion. So what, maybe she'll flop tomorrow and you'll be proven right, or maybe she'll get a standing ovation like she did in 07. Have your opinion, and I'll have mine. Just because you're on the defensive doesn't make my point any less meaningful or any less clear. It has been the same point since the first comment and I have explained it clearly in every response. Have a nice day. Naw I don't serve ribs... |

your interpreting things the wrong away again lmao. before i mentioned her age, when i said she and chaka have nothing interesting to add u took offense. u seem to take issue with any opinion a person will have against prince. We'll if thats the case u shouldnt b in a place where people give opinions. projecting your feelings onto an entire audience because of what YOU think and your opinion. isnt that what this place is all about? lol
U seemed supportive of the fact he chose Chaka so its normal for me to mention her + she kinda refutes your argument. I think your problem is with people giving opinions. |
