I am being Earnest, why do folks hate United States of Division? Here's Prince take on the Star Spangled Banner. Haha. Everybody hates Americans The United States Of Division 2004, still at war and everybody hates Americans Let's go! Come on ... now really explain to me why this song languishes on my iPod -- as I contemplate stuff from my youth... sure, Irresistible Bitch, Nasty Girls, Glamourous Life, LalalaHeHeHee were great, etc. In plain language this song is funky as a motherfucker... The bongos or whatever that noise is, it's sick. And finally the chorous -- magnificient. Why don't I let the song play? But if a motherfucker was talkin' silly ass shit it'd be on top of my favorites? Let's talk! La, la, la

I like the song except for the doo doo doo doo doo doo... ahhhh! That part just gets really old fast... there are some really cool parts to the song though but it's not my fav. |

I think it's a great groove, and a funky little jam.
My problems with it start with the "doo doo doo everybody stop fighting" but, that's a bit naff. That would be okay, but then later on when the voices are saying "black" "white" Gay" "Christian" Muslim" etc, that's really pummeling us with the point. I mean, we get the message, we've been getting it since Controversy. The point itself is fine, I just wish sometimes he wouldn't slap us in the face with it.
I still like it, but it slides down my list of favs from that era for those reasons. It is by no means a shit song. Take it - like Clarence said:

I don't hate the song.
I like 90% of all of his music in the past decade but some people are hung up on chart success and airplay on fake ass radio stations. The rest are just bitter about life and Prince's music is not going to cure that illness that they have.

Ugh this song is so....meh to me...but bygons be bygons...I just thought it was such a cheaply sounding prince track...guess I hate the drum programming and the chorus. The snares and the kickdrum sound so thin and have no aggression Straight Jacket Funk Affair
