I still tend to get "The Orb" and "Orbital" mixed up. I can
never remembe which one of them did "Little Fluffy Clouds".

I'm pretty sure that the FSOL didn't ask permission for the
use of the "eye no" opening scream sample in one of their
songs. If it's not going to be a single, there's very little
chance of anyone finding out anyway.

Unless some twisted fam sends a copy of such tracks to PP.

I've also heard a Prince sample in one of "Eat Static"s
songs, but can't remember which one. But they use so many
darn samples it's hard to keep track.

Wow - someone who knows Eat Static!!! I'd be interested to hear which track samples Prince though, not sure I'm familiar with it (unless your talking about Follow That Camel, which has a Princely guitar lick, a la Erotic City)!

Myself, along with members of the Ozric Tentacles, Eat Static and Harry Waters (son of Roger Waters - Pink Floyd) are holding a special "Unplugged" gig, if you will, featuring a variety of ethnic percussion (tablas, darbhukas, djembes, clay pots), acoustic guitars and some synths for a bit of spaceyness!!

I think this sucks. Why Prince? Jealous of "Little fluffy clouds?"

I think it's really stupid that Prince keeps refusing permission to sample his work. It seems like a very good way to get the youngsters exposed to his work. Hook them in with a sample used by someone else, and then expose them to what YOU'RE really about.

That, and it'd be a great source of income for him. He can't keep up the rock star lifestyle on $100 a year from his most die-hard fans.

And income from his catalog is only going to bring in money for him as long as people are buying the stuff. Letting hotter, newer acts sample him will acheive that to some degree. And enlighten a new generation to the fact that he exists at all.

Of course, artists could just buy the sample cd, no? Wouldn't that be the point? The fact that Prince has already given the opportunity for anyone to own samples of himself for a one-off fee MAY be why he refuses people just looking for rights for one sample.

Prince has granted permission for many samples in his career. For some reason though, I think he doesn't like people to touch "Pop Life." He wouldn't let Elvis Costello cover it, and now he won't let the orb sample it. Hmmm...

Perhaps it's something to do with the fact that this is the
only kind of music that Prince really sucks at when he tries to do it.

I bet he contacted them and said "Why use a sample from
an old song if we can perhaps come up with something new together".

I'd like The Future Sound Of London to remix New Power Soul
and make it an organic record. Kind of like The Isness. That
would be amazing.

Or have Plaid and Autechre join up and re-do the whole RAVE
fiasco remix cd.

A Boards of Canada remix of "Digital Garden" and let Orbital
remix "New World" á la "Technologicque Park". Then Photek
could do a spaced out trip on "Wedding Feast" and Aphex Twin
could cut up and re-do "The Human Body".
