Whats the best part of being a Prince fan?

I was talking with a friend the other day about Prince and about how he's written so much work. We talked about how you can be a fan for years and still be hearing new things like a rare B-side, or an outtake, or alternate track. I enjoy knowing that I haven't heard everything and that there is still more music to heard. To me thats the best part of being a Prince fan, knowing that they're is always more. What would you sayis the best part of being a Prince fan?

Yeah, finding songs he did that I hadn't previously heard, that he might have written for other people. That's always great.

for example I was listening to "So Strong" dale bozzio, and also mind bells for the first time recently. I like those songs a lot.

there's always more stuff to find.

They were that good, huh? lol

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

i kno just what u mean.

on the surface it may seem that ripping the crap out of each other's views is the norm, but,

infact, i can imagine, one day, us all living in a 'Paisley Commune', one big (ish), happy family. Japanese Sandals, long hair, beards (hopefully not the women), all outside the mans temple house in the evenings, as he strums along to his latest composition, (Bria accompanying him on a triangle).

ahh, if only...

(did someone say David Koresh ?)

- No matter how much some of us dislike his current release, you can´t always count on an amazing live performance.

- He always keeps us guessing about his next step.

- I love when he revisits some of his classic songs and comes up with totally different sounding new interpretations ( like the various versions of Something In The Water that he´s played over the years...sure, some of his old songs should rather NOT be revisited or remade, but most of the time I really like what he does with them).

- Hearing interesting little details in most of his songs even after you´ve heard those songs over and over again.

- He does the occasional weird and eccentric stuff but, unlike with most of his peers, he´s mostly about the music and he still delivers. No scandals, no bullshit (except the way he treats his most loyal fans lol ), no drugged out escapades, always about discipline and self determination and striving for perfection. Much more to my liking than, say, some old , washed up and bloated rock stars with countless problems.

Just my two cents.

As already mentioned here I think it is the sheer enormity of Prince. It seems endless. Even when we don't like his music or whatever it is still a huge intrigue. I don't believe that is about being obsessed, I feel it is just incredibly exciting to see an individual who is relentless and driven and on that level whatever our personal judgement is on the output you cannot but feel slightly (at least) intimidated or respectful of the drive. The person is unique, incredible and for me a bloody good example of how we should be.

Gotta agree with that. Also, another best part of being a Prince fan is meeting other Prince fans. It can be kind of hard to find folks who like his music. Too many people think he's strange, evil, etc. lol

RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

Knowing that Prince recorded a lot of music in the 1980's that are still in his vault. There are a lot of tracks from within the Parade/Dream Factory/Crystal Ball/Sigh 'O' The Times era that have yet to be release for sure.

A lot of my reasons have been posted, except one: Educating non fans on Prince.

Younger people I know (my kids, people I work with, etc) seem to hate Prince. They want nothing to do with his music, he's old, he sucks, he's a fag...blah, blah, blah.

Then D'Angelo did "Untitled" and they all loved it. So I played Adore, Insatiable, The Beautiful Ones for them...the look on their faces is priceless.

Or when Justin Timberlake's "FutureLoveWhatever" album comes out an they love it. I pull out my Rolling Stone mag and let them read: "Why did you name your album FutureLove...?" Justin's answer? "Because Purple Rain was already taken."

Or way back in high school when Sinead OConnor did "Nothing Compares 2 U."

My fav...I used to have this young girl Bree who worked for me. She loved and I mean loved Tupac. I always argued with her about him being overrated, etc. She hated Prince and during one conversation she started talking about a Tupac song called "What's Your Phone Number" (I think that's what it was called). Without ever hearing the song I knew it was a 777-9311 sample. I told her to go to her car and get the CD case. Started reading the credits and sure enough..."contains a sample of "777-9311" written by Prince. Her jaw dropped and I died laughing.

Unfortunately my kids have figured out how to get around me. We took a road trip this weekend, 10 1/2 hours one way, 10 1/2 hours back. I put on the Cardigans...they listened. I put on The Doors greatest hits...they listened. I put on Amy Winehouse's first CD "Frank"...they listened. I put on "Controversy"...they put on their ipods. ARGGH!

My wife loved it though, so now we know that whenever we want the kids to shut up and mind their business, put on Prince! thumbs up!
