"Ultimate" TV Commercial on heavy rotation right now in DK News: a new tv commercial for the "Ultimate" 2cd is on heavy rotation here in Denmark. I have seen this 3 times already on TV2 today, I guess because Prince is playing on Roskilde Festival, July 4th 22:00. This commercial is different from the french commercial a few years back, clips from the hits, with the innersleeve artwork of all those records running in the background, including a short clip for Nothing Compares 2 U.
No big deal, it's just nice to see Prince in the media for once.

Looks like WB trying to cash in on Prince to me.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
^ yes thats what i was thinking, Ultimate is owned by WB. How greedy of them to try and cash in on it to. FUNKNROLL! "February 2014, wow". 'dre.

Why greedy?
It's a product of theirs, so the best they can do is take advantage of any chance to promote and sell it.
Exactly the contrary to what Prince does.
It's funny that anyone calls whomever greedy in defense of the hyper-greedy Prince.
How I miss the WB times! We've lost a lot since Prince left them.
Since then, Prince records are less numerous, much poorer, more expensive, much harder to find for the average fan and unavailable in a short time.
I wouldn't call that 'winning a war'.

Stop being a clone and repeating whatever Prince says about WB. Prince had his hand in the pie that is Ultimate. He set the tracklist. He okay'd it's released. WB isn't just putting things out w/o his permission just to make money "off of him". Prince makes money too. He isn't cut off from his own catalog's royalties and profits. He might not own the songs, but he still gets paid for them. So don't fool yourselves on that.
If WB had their way, the Ultimate set would have had "Erotic City" and "Sexy MF" on it, and it would have been in a different track order than what you see. The guy compiling it wanted to put things in chronological order, but Prince rearranged it in A-side/B-side order as you know it now.
Get the facts straight before you scoff at a Prince record being promoted by WB.

Yep, the one who was leaving...

Why is the word "ultimate" so often used incorrectly?
"Keep on shilling for Big Pharm!"

ULTIMATE CASH-IN. | |
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I guess. In the same way that Purple Fucking Rain and Sign O' The God Damn Times were cash-ins, in that they contracted and paid him to create them, then they sold them for money. To you.
I swear, is there a gas leak here at the org that I'm unaware of? The level of brain damage up in this mf lately has me worried.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
yeah it is weird. I am glad the made it. I would like a complete collection of all the WB exteneded stuff. "Keep on shilling for Big Pharm!"

This is the ultimate Prince TV commercial right here baby...
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

You come off as an angry obsessive bitter fan with a nasty habit of attacking other people’s threads and posts. You are losing respect from many people with this asshole attitude of yours on the Forums. Lighten up dude! You should take the time of reading other people’s posts such as this one that was posted earlier and you can learn from it instead of bashing them down. Yes most fans know that the Ultimate (or Ultimate Prince) was compiled by Prince and released by Warner Brothers in 2006. This is 2010 and WB are cashing in on a four year old album in Denmark. So the post was about WB cashing in on an old album. Now you do understand

Is it forbidden to sell 4 year old albums then? Prince could try to make some money out of it (more, as he is getting paid by WB as pointed out), but does not seem to be interested.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
None of that has anything to do with the post. It's none of my business what you, or others, think of me.
I stated facts, you're stating personal opinions. I'm not your dude, either. Telling someone to get their facts checked isn't bashing anyone. Don't project your angst for me onto me.

Fact check again: It wasn't compiled by Prince, it was okayed by Prince, and WB had to take Prince's suggestions for the record. WB was already going to do Ultimate.
WB isn't "cashing in". It's a ridiculous statement. THINK about what that statement means. Cashing in? Are they going to sell a few zillion of the album and "cash in", raking in some bucks? Probably not. The fact is that they want to sell records, and Ultimate will be one of those records. Prince is also "cashing in", aka making money, so where is the crime that everyone's is pissin' and moanin' about? There isn't one. I don't remember hearing anyone belly achin' when they reissued Purple Rain in a digipak for $9 at Walmart. "Oh God, they're cashing in again on Prince!" Never heard that. Seems a bit hypocritical to complain about one thing and not another.
One last note: People are clones when they attack Warner Bros for promoting a Prince record. They only do it because Prince had a big snit fit with them for a few years, and has since talked smack about them.
Yet fans forget he, while still wanting out of his contract, signed a $100,000,000 contract, that he later realized he could not live up to (in the stipulations for selling a certain amount of records in order to get a HUGE cash advance on the next record - so instead of fight and work his career, he quit and blamed the record company).
Yet fans forget in 1998, only 2 years after his contract was up, that he said he had no problem with record companies ,and he liked them, and they did their job with promotion, and "they worked, and it shows. They sell a lot of records."
Yet fans forget about who is the artist who preached about being free and how horrible those pesky record companies were, yet signed one-off deals with EMI, Sony/Columbia, Redline, Target, and Arista? Oh right, PRINCE. Yet no one is bitching about that. No one is talking smack about them. Oh, those are "just distribution deals". Yes, they are, but the fact is he still went back to a record company to get his record out. So who's the hypocrite, really?
So no one is bashing, except the fans who forget the larger picture.
Want WB to cash in? REMASTER THE RECORDS! Make them deluxe editions and start selling them for $14 a pop, every once from 1978-1993, like The Beatles did. How many Beatles compilations are there anyway? Yet they still went back, remastered their albums, repackaged them a bit and are selling them all over the place.
WB is doing their job. Period.

^ True. | |
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
yeah what we got was telling in terms of what we did not get. NO Erotic City.
Erotic City was on the original package but Prince apparently said no. Remember we had that guy that was working on the project and had all kinds of inside info on how it was proceeding.
Its release was also pushed back (after a bunch were shipped and made it to shelves) as to not interfere with prince's 3121. "Keep on shilling for Big Pharm!"

ULTIMATE TWATS.
GOTCHA. | |
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I so wish WB would leave Prince the hell alone and give the man his masters already damn!
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
give? they paid him for them. if he wants them, he can buy them back.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Well they need to pay him some more-bloodsucking mothertruckers!
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
they did that one time and all he did was stuff it up Carmen Electra's cooter and then cried poor.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Exactly! Thank you!
WB are a record company and they're promoting a product of theirs AND Prince's to gain further sales. Where's the problem?
Its great that he is being advertised to coincide with any shows he might be doing. Not only will this compilation be on people's minds, but so might the entire back catalogue.
...And you get to see your favourite artist on TV a bit more ... BONUS! Ishan Cooper - #BATFUNKCRAZY LP out now.. in 3D!!! https://ishancooper.bandcamp.com PURE UNCUT FUNK FROM DOWNUNDER \m/

prince is 2 blame in his current turmoil. Listening 2 alot of his new music i bet wb are happy prince aint with them anymore. we all make mistakes in life & 1 of princes biggest is his a control freak who won't take any advice.
Fantastic musician. Terrible buisnesman.

Wow all that complaining about the record company from some of you here.....
those guys are only doing their job, trying to sell. I see absolutely nothing wrong in that.
If Prince could win some new fans with those TV Commercials, I don't mind the record company is cashing in a bit.

Exactly. A well timed tv advert campaign featuring his greatest hits will do more to promote a tour/concert than anything else. It's a win win for Prince AND Warner. blah blah blah

I wonder what happened??
Those TV commercials for the "Ultimate" 2CD are completely gone now......
After 3 or 4 days only in heavy rotation on danish TV2.
Btw. I have seen this 2 CD for 49,- dkr. only (about $ 9-10) at Stereo Studio, my local record store.
Prince is still in the media though here in Denmark.
Some articles today on eb.dk and gaffa.dk about Prince getting 12 mio. danish kroners ($ 2 million) for playing at Roskilde Festival,
