Love...Thy Will Be Done--NPG Version w/ Prince Vocals?

Hi there folks,

I have two versions of "Love...Thy Will Be Done." The first is the more hushed, quiet version with Prince on vocals. The second is the more rousing, guitar-driven NPG version with Sonny T. on vocals. Does anyone know if there is version that combines the guitar version's music with Prince's vocal?

I actually like Sonny's singing on the NPG track, but you know it ain't the same when Prince isn't singing lead. But I like the music on the NPG version better.

(Incidentally, I feel the same way about the original versus NPG/Sonny T. versions of "Acknowledge Me," so if anyone could point me to my perfect hybrid there, that would be great too.)

Thanks, and peace...

I know the "Acknowledge Me" with Sonny on vocals as "Acknowledge Me #2" on the Work It boot, Disc 32. And, damn, it's funky. The mix is way less cluttered, and the horns are brought to the fore.

Some mix wizard should just transpose Prince's vocals from both of these tracks and put them on the redone NPG tracks.

They are both tracks that Prince did himself and then redid w/ Sonny on vocals as potential Exodus tracks. Usually you find them on sets of Exodus Outtakes.

versions of prince on vox, doing the NPG version of Love..Thy Will B Done, i can't seem

to remember ever coming a cross a studio one. But he did play it live a few times during

the Jam Of the Year tour in 1998. there are some fairly good recordings out there.

"Acknowledge Me #2" [...] damn, it's funky. The mix is way less cluttered, and the horns are brought to the fore.

those versions of "mad"and "funky design" are also superior to the mixes of them

that prince later released through the npgmc.

i love that we have those songs with prince on lead vocals but it's just a shame that

he chose to release the less exciting versions.

love that whole "blow your mind, blow your mind, everybody's trippin on the funky

design" background chorus on the NPG version. plus that weird BG noise that kind

of sounds like an elephant charging into a room, trumpetting. can't remember if it's

also in the prince version. hmmm.

i'm gonna dust of those npg outtakes again tonight and give them another listen cool

OH, I agree, I like the NPG versions of Acknowledge Me and Love..Thy Will Be Done, i just hate Sonny T's vocals. If there was versions with Prince on vocals, that would be my holy grail along with perfect copies of The Family demos with Prince on vocals.

I love the version with Prince's vocals. I think he should release his version , but redo his vocals. I think it would get some radio play.

I dunno, I liked Prince's older versions on all these songs, production, vocals, everything. The NPG versions sounded cheap to me.

I agree. If I hadn't heard the other versions I would have said I didn't like the song. It just goes to show what production can do for a song.

Not sure if Prince recorded his own vocal version of this particular version, since Sonny already had the original one to "guide" his own per4mance, but it will have to remain a mystery until someone asks Sonny in an interview... If such a version exists, though, it's NOT circulating as far as i know...

Also on the 'Fantasia' bootleg.

I quite like the Sonny T stuff.

I love this song. Back in the mid 90's when Prince played many shows at paisley Park he would often perform this live with great guitar and all. It was always a highlight for me.

To each his own...I like both sets, especially of "Love...Thy Will." I just think the NPG versions have a more energized feel, closer to how he performed them live. I will hazard to claim that the early version of "Acknowledge Me" is overproduced, and I tend to be an 'everything and the kitchen sink, too' fan of Prince's arrangements.

Maybe it's because I originally heard all of these tracks in their live form before I heard the earlier studio versions, and P tended to use the NPG versions for his backing tracks during live performances during this era (which I think he tended to overdo, actually), and they got stuck in my head that way. But I digress...

Yeah the Jam Of The Year recording at Paisley I have...

Then there is the Sonny T. version

There are two Prince solo versions..one where he is singing by himself and the other with Martika and Prince's vocals on the same track overlaying.

Album plays and love for vinyl records.
