What Is Your Favorite Prince Album You Love Every Track On?

Just to get away from the moaning and groaning over P's latest free releases, how about stating your favorite Prince album that you love every track on? And yes, I know there is more than one in 30 years of music, but if you had to name one album with what you consider treasured tracks, what would it be? I have more than one--but the one I can definitively name is The Gold Experience. Every song on it is great lyrically and instrumentally and fits together as a cohesive whole IMO! So what is your Prince album you love every song on and why? biggrin

I think Parade.

I always go to other albums, but I gravitate towards Parade like a crackhead. It flows so fucking well and amazingly - waves of difference make an ocean. biggrin

It's funny how much love Come gets on the Org. When it was released it was roundly panned by critics. Just goes to show you what they know.

Actually, an interesting thread would be listing examples where the critics got Prince wrong.

As far as my choice, it would have to be Parade. This album is pure brilliance. It sounds so fresh everytime I listen to it. Really underappreciated and ahead of its time.

Another very under-rated album in my opinion--many strong songs on it, including "Solo." Nothing embarrassing about it--except the fact that most people, if they live long enough, have been there at least once in their lives. nod

Definitely Parade. Not my favorite album per se but there´s not one track that I skip on it....then again, Do U Lie is the kind of song that makes me turn the volume down because I don´t want my neighbors to hear it. lol

But I love every track on it. A close second would be Purple Rain, the album socalled fans love to hate, if that makes sense.

I love 1999 and SOTT but I can´t stand one or two songs on them.

I don't like "Shy". If I could cut that out (and I do on my iTunes - I never ripped the track), then yes, I can listen to it straight through. I actually don't care much for "Life Can Be So Nice", but I can stand it enough to get through the album.

Do you like the alternate version of "Shy" from the Free as a Bird boot anymore than the official version? For me "Shy" is one of the better songs on The Gold Experience.

I like the "Shy" version on the Gold Experience but I would sure like to hear the alternative version! There seem to be so many alternative versions of songs--I'm having a blast discovering them! After not listening for fifteen years, I'm finding a treasure-trove of jewels to listen to--new and old--and I'm not jaded or burnt out at all... I'm loving hearing the old and the new! biggrin

I also have to agree with Ernest after several listenings to Emancipation that, with strategic editing, this album would be considered one of P's "masterpeices." Fortunately, in this day and time, we can turn it into one! cool

I'm not a fan of the song in any form. It's banal and vapid to me. Prince on autopilot, at best. I took it out of my playlist (and took the sound effects at the beginning and end and tied them together), and it works great. It's a dip in the album's flow for me. Without, the album just screams right along.

I went through and did some edits on a decent amount of the Emancipation songs. It keeps everything more focused and moving along. Stuff like "(There'll Never B) Another Like Me" suffers the same way "Jam of the Year" and "Sleep Around" do. There seem to be unfocued moments in the songs, where it just strays into dry drum sounds, or percussion breaks, and the flow of the song is totally lost. It's like a stop-start feeling to those types of songs. When you hone in on the thrust of the song, and edit it that way, it's spectacular. I cut the rap out of "Da Da Da" and "Mr. Happy" as well in my numerous edits. (Let the "BLASPHEMY" screaming begin.)

Okay... sigh I know that picking one Prince album is like licking to the center of a tootsie pop--you can't have just one lick! So, the other Prince albums that I love and know every lyric to are:

Dirty Mind

1999

Purple Rain (Duh!)

Around The World In A Day

Parade

The Gold Experience...

So how many of you are tied into your favorites because you were "gone" over them in your youth...or when the albums first came out? Be honest now.. lol eek

basically I love all the Prince/ Warner albums. love2

True that Ronnie Talk To Russia,

the Time songs on Graffiti Bridge,

Jughead and

Orgasm are "weak".

but I still LOVE all of these WB. albums: love

For You,

"Prince",

Dirty Mind, (masterpiece)

Controversy, (masterpiece)

1999, (masterpiece)

Purple Rain, (masterpiece)

Around The World In A Day, (masterpiece)

Parade, (masterpiece)

Sign "O" The Times, (masterpiece)

Black Album, (masterpiece)

Lovesexy, (masterpiece)

Come (yes definately 1 of his best albums, if only "Lovesign" had been on it too), (masterpiece)

The Gold Experience (masterpiece)

I also love:

Diamonds & Pearls

prince

but these does not count, since they have a few weak songs..... like Blue Light, Arrogance, The Flow, The Max, Jughead, Push

edit: I'm not gonna mention all the weaker albums then. wink biggrin

Keep in mind that the question is--what is the one (or in this case more than one) album that you love EVERY track on... Not the albums that you don't like some tracks on! I have several of those, including Lotusflower and MPLSound! cool
