I've just "got" the 3121 version of The Dance It's taken me a while, I've always preferred the sparser, quieter arrangement of The Dance from The Chocolate Invasion but I've got it now. Blummin 'ell

I've also just 'got' the dance, had it on repeat a few times lately. I still laugh at the 'it's just not fayer' bit tho, reminds me of my 6 year old daughter!

I think Prince didn't hit the nail properly with this song.
The first version is too sparse. The second is too busy.

I think it was the passion, yearning and frustration in those last couple of minutes that finally hit home for me. A few things have happened to me over the last 6 months and this song really spoke to/for me at last Just somewhere in the middle,

this is 1 of the too many skipped tracks from 3121 for me, prefer the TCI version, the album just doesn't do 'IT' for me, i prefer Musicology and PE.

me too. tci version is great, i listen to it quite a lot. never cared for the 3121 version. it just doesn't do anything for me, plus the screaming at the end is a bit ott. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

I just prefer the slower version-has more feeling to it

I wish I could edit the piano solo in the 2nd version. It was such a beautiful song when it was simple and heart felt... but not stripped down like in the 1st version.
The piano singing and the talking sounded lame to me. It totally changes the feel of the song. I swear I think of Liberace when I hear that part.
but the 2nd version without the solo is one of my top 10 songs from prince. "Remember, one man's filler is another man's killer" -- Haystack

THe clsing spoken part and climax of the music is pure Prince genius - the way the Beautiful Ones was in the Purple Rain era. Girls swooned at the passion.
