No, you're not the only one. I love this track from MPLSound. It reminds me of when he used to put out those slammin 12' versions because at 4:17, it sounds like it's going to end, but he brings it back and funks it. I also love the acoustic guitar groove he comes up with on the "What U waitin' 4?, what U waiting 4?" part .

If U came 2 get your 'Purple Rain' on...U'RE IN THE WRONG HOUSE!!!!!!

One of the most cringeworthy songs Prince has ever commited to tape.

I'm absolutely ashamed for it. Wouldn't let my friends discover Prince did that turd. I mean, really.

There's a certain edit that makes the song much tighter and stronger; the flow is just better on the edit. I think the album version has too many dry and uninteresting break downs. Like at the beginning. You hear the "WHOOAAAA" then......nothing but drums...that Linn is just ticking away. The edit gets the song right into the meat of the song, and cuts those duller moments out of the song throughout. Even at a shorter 4:16 time, it works 100x better. Same with a shorter 3:55, but much funkier and cohesive, "Box of Chocolates".

^There's no meat in this song for me.

Along with Lolita or Incense and Candles is one of the most terrible, cheesy, poor and cringeworthy songs Prince ever wrote.

(You can add virtually the full MPLS Shit album to the lot...).

Well listen, I'm no fan of that set of uninspired banal foolishness, but I do find those two tracks a bit more listenable in the edited fashion.

Yet another GREAT song....music

Do they ever stop?

Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

I like the song and the lyrics are a beautiful fantasy. Imagine if Prince was singing about getting with U, makes me wonder what that person is supposed to do. Everyone knows how hard it be to get through the guards just to talk to him.

You beat me to it. It's hit n' miss at best. I liked stuff from 3121 and Planet Earth, but I wouldn't call it "GREAT". In the past decade, it's the lesser of the evils. Which one is stronger than another, but even then it's not exactly a song that could bench press 200lbs.

So, you've stuck around for 10 years of mediocrity?

I would only stick around if I still dug the music...

Never B is just as good as Sleep Around, which is just as good as Let's Pretend We're Married....and so on...The man crafts gems. It's too bad you can't see (hear) them.

You're really saying "never b" is the same calibur as "Let's Pretend We're Married"? That is the biggest pot of shit stew I've heard on here yet.

Love and Dance 4 Me are as great as DMSR too....They are dance floor staples (for the right ears). Never B is high class stuff, as is Let's Pretend We're Married, so ...YES.

But, I feel ya....New Prince always loses to Old Prince, but not by as much as his (jaded) fans will have you believe. The man still makes heads bob and clits jump.

I wouldn't call it just 'mediocrity'. I'd call it 'the lamest stuff I ever thought Prince could deliver'.

And if I'm still around after exactly 6 years of records I didn't like AT ALL is because all the previous stuff (especially up to 1995) is too great to forget.

Maybe it's unbeknownst to you as bootleg seeking is seen as a sort of 'a sin' at the org but old stuff in astounding better quality keeps on surfacing every now and then (both studio -which is my main interest- and live/rehearsal stuff).

The possibility of more old good stuff coming out in unheard quality is enough to bear with years of lame records and some thousands of fams.

I love the track.

And I highly disagree with the notion that Prince hasn't made any great music this decade. He has made lots. I think most of the people saying that are just old farts who don't like new music.

MPLSoUND and 3121 are two of the strongest albums Prince has made in the last 20 years.

^Er... you forgot to add that these are personal opinions you (and everybody's aunty) is entitled to.

I love it when most of you state 'this album IS...' instead of 'I think this album IS...'.

Most of you talk as you were in possesion of the absolute truth and everybody who thinks differently is an idiot. Or an 'old fart'.

On the same token I could call you all 'tasteless-youngsters-who-get-fooled-by-flavourless-products' but I don't.

Decent music and terrible lyrics. Like most of the three albums in the set. All three of the albums seem to be a monumental tribute to Prince's self-centeredness, so this song fits right in with the ego trip Prince was on, but the song's pretty embarrassing.

I said "I disagree with" and "I think" in the sentence before that, so it was implied in the one below.

I don't like when people present their opinions as fact either, and I try not to do that.

OK. Understood.

What's especially funny is that when people do that they normally write the boldest (and most stupid) assesments one could dream of. And they post it as if it were the Boyle-Mariotte law or something.

i like it too. i agree with ernest though, it's a little too long. i like the playful lyrics even if they are braggadocious. mpls as an album overall is pretty good to me. Here is just sublime and Better With Time is on par with SHOE as his best ballad in years.

I think it's a quite uneven song. The melody and the singing sound somewhat dry in the first verse. It gets better in the second verse but the verses are too weak compared to the chorus.
